I’ve also noticed that some 118206 Day Date 36s with the glacier blue dial have shade variants. Some are very close to silver, and others are clearly blue (like the “Platona” blue dial). The larger DD40s are clearly blue.

Does anyone know what accounts for the difference, such as the year of manufacture?

To OP, yours looks silver from the photos.

Gotta be way older - been a while since the DD36 came with a domed bezel and the reference to removing the bracelet to view the serial number suggests it was pre-engraved rehaut.

Which is also making me think the dial is silver; I thought that the slate dial on this watch was a bit more recent. Though it looks silver, regardless.

That's not correct. Today, yes, the only DD available with a smooth bezel is the platinum DD40. But previously, WG, YG and RG DD was available with either fluted or domed (different from today's more angular smooth bezel). Those were also available with an Oyster bracelet, too.

Not to get too far OT, but if you want to see a really cool, different DD, look for a RG, Oyster/domed with a black dial.

I had one in my hands a while back and it VERY hard to see the blue... but it IS there from certain angles. The platinum i have now is a 2008 and the dial is ALSO called glacier blue and its VERY blue green.... like a glacial melt water.

I dont know why Rolex has made these glacier blue dials with different shades of blue. It seems to me that if you are going to change the dial color.... give it a different name.
BUT.... Like i said.... I have seen that silvery blue dial in person and on the watch's
paper ... IT SAYS.... Glacier Blue. SO... go figure.

I haven't been able to figure out what years the watches came with the silvery blue dial... and what years they were very blue green.... like the one i have.
But ... ALL the ones i have seen with papers.... say Glacier Blue on them... whether
slivery blue dial or more intense blue dial.
This, exactly. I have a 2005 Platinum DD with a Glacier Blue dial, and the color is the same as OP's. I have a 2020 Ice Blue Platinum DD 40, and the difference between the two dials is night and day. Some dealers seem to photograph the Glacier dials to make them look much more blue than they really are. In the flesh, they are a pale silver with just a slight tint of blue, but only in bright light and only at a very few angles.

It looks silver to me, but it could be glacier blue.
