Usually I take off my watch when riding the subway. That's because of growing up when it was so far worse than it is even now.

It's so area and time dependent.

Nice watch!
Let's take our watches out for a drink in NYC.

It’s the world’s financial center and some of the wealthiest people in the world live in the city. Manhattan has more millionaires living in it than most states in this country.

Of course things happen, but things can happen anywhere. I wore my Sub all over Brooklyn the other day and felt totally safe. Just pay attention to surroundings and don’t be an idiot, and you’ll be fine.

I’m glad you posted to show this to people.
Exactly what I was trying to illustrate with my sarcasm. Regardless where you go, things can potentially happen. You can't live in fear - I purchased my watches to wear, not to keep them locked away in fear that something may happen. Something bad may happen even if i don't wear the watch. I'm going to enjoy it!

I enjoyed my watches in NYC memorial day weekend. Situational awareness. Not flaunting them. And they are insured.

I’m in Minneapolis at the moment. AP26420SO and 126619LB. Rate of crime is worse here. If I was in a 3rd world country, I’d take a 16610 or a 226570 just to have in case I was in a jam and needed to trade or barter. On subjects like this, opinions vary.

If some psycho decides to throw you on the tracks or shoot you, it was your time to go. It's a numbers game in NYC (1 out of 8 million). That's how you have to think every time you go out, and use your street smarts. Be safe.

It means a few things.

For me it means in my city which I know inside out, I just know how and when to not have my watch on.

It also means if I were to go to LA or SF, since I do not know them anywhere near as well, I'd not wear them with the same sense of ease.

Same with going some places and obviously being a tourist..That greatly increases risk.

There are so many things we can do to increase awareness and there is always a chance anything can happen regardless of our watches.

I can just say that reading the horror stories over and over and watching videos can make us paranoid and even a bit delusional.

Again, if I am visiting a city and do not know it that well, no way would i just walk around with it on my wrist as that would likely be a bad idea..think LA or London for that matter and yes certain situations in NYC as well but to a lessor extent.

Have you done it before? Trading your watches in a third world country 🙄 They’ll say no about that trade, call their cousins, tell them to wait for you outside then rob your 16610.

I spent most of my life in and around NYC. It is the worst it has been in 50 years.
I'm pleased that you had a good experience, but I would not press your luck very often

This is absolutely not true and not supported by the data. Crime is up but nowhere near the level of the 70s, 80s, or early to mid 90s.

I was born and raised in NYC, this is not the worst NYC has been. The 80s and 90s was like living in a different world - todays environment is a lot safer than it was when I was growing up.

I wear my watches all the time and have had no problems.

I did the unthinkable!

NYC’s Mayor’s Aid was just mugged at gunpoint.

I work in NYC and I don’t like playing Russian roulette.

Um no.

Hey OP, sure let's meet up this summer!

It's interesting to compare the crime stats of dreaded NYC to many other cities including States that have easy to get conceal carry permits.

NYC is safer by far than Miami, Houston, Dallas and more.

Not to say I'm pleased with the homeless and crazies on the street or the breakdown of so many things...but net net, this is a great place to live and I also understand it's not for everyone.

I make it a habit of not putting down where anyone lives..It's not nice and it's rude..yet so many feel it's ok to dump on NY as if it's ok..

We all love watches and decide for ourselves our personal comfort level wearing them.

i get it but it didn't exactly happen in a great area...was right outside low income housing projects and by the navy yard. not really a place you would venture out into voluntarily. i lived here my whole life and have never even been close to where it happened. i don't know what he had on him (or maybe they knew who he was) but this falls under situational awareness - don't go to places that are sketchy, he was probably there for work but that's his job. the sad part is that it happened in broad daylight

you can't tell me you would feel the same walking around manhattan as you would those projects

It’s funny or sad, how fast 50 years goes by. In the early 70’s every comedian had a joke about getting mugged in NYC. I have been traveling to NY a lot lately and I guess those old jokes stick in your head. It is an interesting place and I never felt unsafe however I was running around Manhattan. Crime is like the gazelles at the watering hole every once in awhile a lion pops out and gets you 15 minutes later they’re all back at the watering hole. I suppose hanging 15 grand on your wrist makes you look like a slow gazelle

I know exactly where this is. I played basketball as a kid a block down from this location. This neighborhood is bad - this is not the best representation of NYC.

I wear mine in nyc, but no subway, uber…. wait until
uber outside waiting for me …but I don’t flash it ( long sleeve) Specially at night !
No late drinking evenings and walking around intoxicated helps.

Just be smart about it, and use common sense. I wear my watches daily everywhere in the city. Day or Night. Sober or Drunk

I cover multiple hospitals in Manhattan and don’t just stay in one “safe” area.

I don’t get up in the morning and say:

Covering Harlem- unsafe
Covering mount sinai west- safe
Covering mount sinai St. Luke’s- unsafe
Covering mount sinai main- unsafe

I’m all over NYC and you’ll definitely get mugged wearing a shiny Rolex in certain areas even in broad daylight.

This was never the case when I was in training. There is much more awareness of what a Rolex is because of social media and thieves are much more aggressive.

I do wear my watches in NYC, but definitely much much less than before.

It would be nice to not think about it and just wear whatever watch I want, but unfortunately, it’s not that easy for me.

I’m glad you’re enjoying yours.

All of mine are insured as well. Always try to be aware of my surroundings. If I’m unsure, it’s Apple or Luminox. Don’t particularly worry about a lost watch, however I don’t have another a** hanging up in the closet at home.

Good for you. I live here. Though ours are not as noticeable as your BLRO, perhaps, my wife and I wear a Rolex or Omega everywhere we go, every day. Even on the subway.

Don't wear the 126900 on the subway and let me see it!

I can tell you I recently traveled to NYC and Miami on business and In Miami I felt much safer. People are much more polite/friendly and there isn’t the feeling of nervousness/high alert from the general public that there is in NYC. I will not be returning to NYC anytime soon if I can avoid it.

Miami has a significantly higher crime rate than NYC.
