Debating on giving up on watches altogether. (warning: salt )
Cant buy an entry level SS professional Rolex as I am not a VIP client. Buying from another brand wont get me any closer to the SS Rolex as my AD's don't sell JLC etc. and if I buy anything else will the only thing I see be the Rolex I can't have? These are luxury items, which don't save or change lives, except for when you get robbed, mugged, or loose it in an airport or while swimming. Paying grey prices or buying jewelry may get me the watches I want tomorrow but grey market buying won't give me a "purchase history" at the AD and money is a finite resource and paying premiums will eat into budgets for other watches and things I want to have/do. That being said there is value in just "being done with it". I think getting involved into the Rolex communities has made me turn my nose at relatively easier to obtain models like a DJ or two tone models. Why should I pay for something that I want to make me feel special and have positive memories with when those who are passionate for the brand see them as less than extraordinary. Also, two tone models seem like they aren't particularly great to daily. Also, going to the AD's to "check in" is a lot of legwork, and although my AD's are very pleasant its hours out of my schedule that I could be adding value to my life and not putting on a show for some unfortunate, overworked SA who's dealing with the 2x10^xxxx WASP with a story who wants a watch. Finally, although I am happy for those who "got the call" or post "incoming" I cant help but have cynical thoughts about what that person had to do or pay to get the "opportunity to acquire". If the incoming OP blesses us with something other than a photo in their car outside the dealer, (e.g. a nice vacation or action shot) all I can think is how many memories I wanted to associate with the watch I want but cant because I am waiting for it... |

Current status: 1) AD1: Giving me the "50k jewelry purchase history" requirement. No chance 2) AD2: Signed up for several watches, they got me a YM37 for my wife. Now they have sent me options not on my wish list (eg. TT SD43) so there's hope. 3) AD3: Out of town but I didn't tell them this, provided phone/email only. Seemed friendly, I'll likely get to check in with them 1-2 times per year At the rate things are going in the Grey market either by the end of the year or next summer at the latest I expect Grey/AD to reach parity even for some SS models. If AD has nothing by that time, will once again go Grey. |

Is the perceived lower number of incoming posts a sign the hype is waning? I hope so.

I’m waiting on anything from my AD in UK.
OP, DJ and BB58 bought in one year and waiting for something for the past 2 years and getting diddly squat. Not in a desperate wait for anything as I am an owner already. My life can be fully enjoyed without a Rolex and honestly I think we should put things into perspective. I honestly don’t recall any nice memories and immediately thinking about the watch I wore. It’s the people around me and the things I did which are at my foremost memory. We’re addicts yes, but when I stopped looking on forums, Reddit and IG they thirst slowed down. |

I just stopped posting my incoming watches. No reason other than the time it takes.

Exactly! And I would spread the word via any means possible not to do business there.

Like you, I’ll wait in the wings, watch the gray market, and when the time is right; make the purchase. It’s not as if these watches are scarce or rare. |

Tapatalk crashed for the past week, maybe that has something to do with it.
I got this beauty from my AD 2 weeks ago and just got my extra bracelet link last Friday as I was travelling before that. I did post an incoming thread though: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Very nice! A polar 226570 is next on my list. Might be a hot minute though because I just scored an IWC Pilot Chronograph Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One™ edition. |
