Based on your original post, leave it home. Why spend a vacation worrying about your watch. Bring a watch you don't have to worry or thing about and enjoy your trip.

I wore my sub once to Hawaii, but never left the room with it. I kept it in the safe and looked at it a couple times…

You're probably over thinking it. 99% of the crowd wont even notice you're wearing a Rolex. Took my GMT to Oahu wore it everywhere.

I always change the oyster bracelet to my 16610 for a nato strap when going on vacation. That way it’s very low key and doesn’t attract to much attention.

Cheers

I have owned both. You are overthinking the WR ratings. I would actually have just as much confidence in the DJ as the SO42. The DJ has an Oyster case, twinlock crown, and has more or less been the gold standard for water resistant case designs for decades. The SO42 case is a bit thicker and would likely flex less at extreme depths. Both would be 100% fine with basically any water use you will throw at it.

The clasp on the DJ might however cause me some concern if I was spending a lot of time in the ocean.

I would personally take the SO42.

The last time I was in Hawaii every single person wearing a Rolex got robbed and killed, probably 6 or 7 people in 1 day alone. Don't even think about it!!!

You’re worried about a lot of things about the Rolex, so take your Superocean. You shouldn’t worry on your vacation.

The Rolex can handle a pool, as well as any water activity you choose, even scuba diving. Is it insured against theft? Hotel safes are one thing, I’d be more worried about being robbed. Unless you’re just ordering tiki drinks while relaxing on a chaise lounge by the pool, you might get some scratches and dings. And if you quaff enough of those drinks you also might get some scratches and dings stumbling back to your room.

Stop into the Ala Moana Mall Rolex Boutique across from the Small Boat Harbor in Honolulu.

Don't be afraid to wear your watch. No one even notices. I've been wearing Rolexes around to all 50 US states Canada, Germany & The Netherlands with zero issues for 34 years.

Enjoy your Rolex. Hawaii is not any different from any other states in the US.

One interesting observation of Kauai airport security, when heading back to the mainland, a security personnel requested to look at the back of my sub. I took off my sub and showed him the back of my watch. He then confirmed I was good to come through - I thought that was weird.

For leisure and beach travel, I bring this watch. It’s a tank and I don’t worry about anything. It never leaves my arm.

You should stop buying watches that cause so much worry.
And if it takes the load off just send that DJ to me and I'll keep it safe :)

Seriously, DO NOT buy watches that give rise to you asking these types of questions if you are unable to work it out for yourself.

Hawaii is lovely spot for a holiday, but Waikiki has too many LOUD cars and bikes revving the proverbials out of their motors for a good nights sleep. Stay a bit north if you are going there.

And another thing because it's polished so fine I am afraid not to get scratches especially on the clasp. Or probably is better to go with my Breitling Superocean that is 500m WR and looks more rough.
If this isn’t a joke you should sell your DJ and stick to Casio.

The 100m WR stands for "watch resistance" to potential watch thieves, if you are worried and need more distance take the 1000m WR Seiko.

That said, a little splish splash in the hotel pool is obviously going to be fine with either watch...
Hi J,

I haven’t read this much misinformation in a long time.

I have dived from the 10metre tower at my local pool wearing my 14060 and it didn’t even know.

That is 30 mph entry speed.

It has zero effect on watch pressure resistance.

Splash your hands as much as you like.

Have agree cannot understand why some buy Rolex watches if they are going to concern you with worry on wearing anywhere in the world.

Sylvia Earle has used her for diving. If you dont know who she is, kook her up. Suffice to say, you will be fine. My dad wore his DJ and DD in construction/paving and doing things people would be screaming for their shocks. Safest place for your watch is on your wrist. If it will be sitting out the vacation in a safe, just dont bring it, its just a liability at that point and something to worry about.

This is a myth born of watch forums that is continually disproven but will not die–perhaps because it allows people like the OP to think that anything short of 500m WR cannot touch the water.

You should not be indulging such delusions.

Wear your watch.

Wear your watch on vacation

Wear your watch in the pool

If its not safe to wear your watch in a city it is not safe to be in that city.

If you don't wear you watch, sell your watch.

I’m going to Mexico next week with my Mrs and two year old son! I won’t be wearing my Explorer. I ll be rocking my Casioak cause I’ll be having too much fun building sandcastles and knocking back a fair few Icebergs (half beer/half margarita).

If you’re worried or concerned about the watch strapped on your wrist even for a second. Take something else. Our watches should fit into our lifestyles.

On a final point, for me, needing to know the time is irrelevant on holiday. I know the bar opens at 10am, water volleyball at 11am and nacho time after!
