Point 5 is my favorite part, because that will be ignored immediately. So, if i get a watch from AD 1 that’s extremely hot and i don’t want it, i walk over to AD 2 with it unworn and offer it up in trade for what i want. Once this process starts, it’s over for the guy or gal with no history with ADs. You will never get a new watch from Rolex.

I’m not planning on doing this but this is the process i see happening. If they held the line and said absolutely no purchases of watches less than 3 years old, i think this could work. But giving the ADs a recommendation, isn’t going to work.

Someone mentioned it in a previous thread, this could very quickly turn into the Ferrari model or the recent 911 turbo model. You’re going to have to pay over list for the first one, or buy a preowned Ferrari. Then work your way into getting an allocation and start selling back to the dealership (ad) for the next allocation.

I’m sad for the guy or gal that retires and walks into the store in the mall they have been looking at for 10 years to get their Rolex. Then they get hit in the face by an employee that laughs at them and says, it’s 7 years for your 36mm DJ. It’s a luxury item, i get it, but at a certain point it’s not really that luxurious to rationalize the games.

Except that’s not what OP said… he said ADs are encouraged to only engage in discontinued watches but they can still sell watches as CPO that are still in production as long as they’re > 3 years old e.g. a 2018 DayDate or GMT Master II. I don’t think ADs are allowed to buy a brand new 2022 watch from you (because they’d be encouraging flipping which Rolex frowns upon) and they’re not allowed to sell this watch as CPO because it’s < 3 years old.

Rolex did hold the line and set it in stone that watches sold as part of CPO program has to be at least 3 years old.

Also it’s not correct that newbies won’t be able to buy a new Rolex. I’m on a waiting list for a DJ41 that I paid a 10% deposit for, without having any purchase history with this AD. I don’t think all ADs will be selling CPO nor do I think the CPO will make it harder for people to buy their first Rolex. Only time will tell if I’m right or wrong.

Provided the pricing on hot models persists, we may find a new category of buying--someone who buys watches from a secondary dealer for the express purpose of trading it to an AD to provide the AD with a financial incentive to allocate them a specific new watch at MSRP.

(Which has probably already happened with some of the dealers who currently deal in used, but this might become much, much more common.)

Just thought I'd share my 1st time coming across an AD with the program already up and running and the info I got.

So I was at Bucherer in Düsseldorf, Germany. Obviously no new stock for sale but they got the new pre-owned certified program from Rolex already running.

The info I got was as follows:
1. Each AD can decide on the price of sale of every second hand model.
2. Rolex does not limit them in any way with regards to price.
3. The price they pay for a watch you bring in to sell is determined by the AD, so the price you will get for your watch may differ a lot between AD'S.
4. The prices for certified can be more than new.
5. They are "encouraged" to only buy models that have been discontinued. Or models that have dials or other features that have been discontinued. This to not create a competition between new and semi-new.

They had some 2tone DJ36 and ss DJ31 for sale as certified but nothing too exciting. As for pricing it's on the high side. The models can be had for much less from grey. But yes it comes with the certified warranty and they're an AD and they're not limited on pricing by Rolex

So there you have it folks, just some info for ya'll who got questions. I didn't get much more info about the process of buying or selling or upgrading or trading in cause I was in a rush but if you have some more info you want to add on the matter please feel free. Wish ya'll a great day.

Some people have commented in this and other threads on this topic that if prices are sky high from the AD with this CPO program, they would not buy from the AD but buy from a reseller/grey market. That assumes that people are aware of resellers. Sometimes when I go into Tourneau in White Plains, I talk with other customers. It surprises me but none have heard of TRF when I bring up the FS section. So I do not assume that someone walking off the street knows they can buy elsewhere but the AD.

I also wonder if the price on the CPO watches are negotiable from the AD?

Just curious, did AD say whether prices are as non-negotiable as MSRP on new ones, or is some degree of discounting baked into the CPO price?

I didn't ask to be honest. But I'd guess that it also may differ from.AD to AD. Some mag negotiate while others may not or some may negotiate just on certain models.
But I guess you'll have to ask the AD plan to buy from
