Yes. Even with the $7k extra as the sun is maybe worth £9-10k right now.

Here's my opinion and you can search my posts as I'm consistent on this. I don't like the look of chronographs, certainly including the Daytona in all its variations, with the exception of very very few. But, I do like the Speedy ( the basic Professional version) and think it's look is unique in the world of chronographs.

Why? When I started out in this hobby, I saw so many young guys with flashy chronograph watches with prominent sub dials. Everything from Timex to Tag to Breitling to Daytona to Hamilton to Seiko. After awhile, they ALL looked the same to me. The busyness within the dials made every chronograph from every SINGLE brand look the same. Even Rolex. My eyes glaze over.

So, yeah, I'd take the 321. All the different Speedy variation arguments put forth don't swing me in the least.

If you really want the 321 thats a fine choice. You are in the right ballpark price wise between the sales value of your LN and the grey market value of the 321. You can easily compare various grey dealers to maximize the deal.

But if I was going that route i'd rather a daytona.

The 321 is certainly something special given what it represents but they've made so many speedmasters, so many limited editions and variations... Personally I'm over it. And I'm sure it's an amazing watch... and from a couple feet away it looks exactly like another watch of the same brand and collection that sells at retail for less than half the price. No thanks.

I enjoy seeing the backside of yours on IG every time you post it. And the case (straight lugs) and bracelet definitely look special.

Who am I kidding, if I had the funds I would go for a 321 over the basic hesalite of mine. :) But would I sacrifice a Sub + 7k on top to get that? probably not.

On paper +7k is probably a bit too much. But is the extra 2k-3k too much really matter in the big scheme of things.

If you want the 321 get it.

Why is everyone here using the grey price of an unworn sub and the MSRP of the 321, a watch that is currently unobtainable?

Prior to the 2ndary pricing madness, it would have been a no-brainer. Standard Sub Date vs the most coveted version of the Speedmaster. Inflated pricing aside, that Omega is far more horologically significant and rare than the ubiquitous Submariner. I'd do that trade, OP, especially with your current lineup

Maybe if you factor the MSRPs for each and just pay the difference. $7k is too much.

Not a chance for me (and I am a big Moonwatch fan). Don't get me wrong if you are massively into horology and have a great appreciation of the movement then maybe.
If not just buy a regular hesalite / manual wind Moonwatch, it will feel the same gap in your collection. Not sure what they go for but they used to be incredible value, I paid $3,750 for one brand new 4 years ago, I suspect they are a good bit more now.

That Speedy is a great watch. Not quite $7k extra but see if you can negotiate a bit off the top.

I have the 321 and would love a no date Sub. I wouldn’t do the trade for one though.

Judging by your current collection why not ? The 321 is a very rare piece if not more rare then the silver Snoopy.

I say you should do the trade, the 321 is a great watch. And since you have the LV I don't think you will miss the black sub!

It’s just hard for me to wrap my mind around paying that much for a Speedmaster. I have one and it’s a great watch… but it isn’t the same as a Rolex for many reasons.

I love Omega because of the value proposition that’s offered for watches like the standard hesalite Speedmaster. But a SS Speedmaster at over $14k? Doesn’t make sense to me no matter how special Omega says it is by making it one of their countless limited editions.

I hear that. I'd trade my LV sub straight for it but that's where I'd stop. I'd be in it $10.6k net which is a 30% premium to the 3861 speedy.

It’s not a limited edition Dave

It’s an ongoing production reference in limited numbers.

There are roughy 1500-2000, 321 movements spread among 3 configurations (Platinum, Gold and Stainless Steel).

I do understand the price point is not worth it to some

IMO it's the only one with a decent bracelet. So there's that.

Fair enough.

Acknowledging your caveat, I still wouldn’t put that much coin into a steel Speedy.

But the Speedmaster is a great watch. It was my one and only for about 8 years before I got my Rolex. I still wear and enjoy it. Maybe I need to have another look into the Speedy lineup because in my mind they occupy a price point well below Rolex, but they punch above their weight class. My question about this watch is if that analogy still holds. If it does, then pay all means go for it!

I seriously love the 321 Speedmaster, but not enough to pay over MSRP.
