[QUOTE=TARDIS;128449]Thanks guys. Your input is as always great to get. I think this forum, more than any other, has more folks who actually READ other folks threads and post constructive replies. Makes great reading.

I plan on getting the white dial Exp II by Christmas. Only thing is I have to think hard how to get sanction from my wife. I already bought her a 1 carat solitaire ring last year. What do I do to get the OK for an Explorer II?? Any ideas??

Steve, I brought my girlfriend a Rolex for her 30th Birthday, six months before I got my Explorer. That way, she couldn't kick up a fuss about mine

How to convince the significant other you should endulge youself? Well, I guess we do not know the special circumstances of your situation, and our own experiences might not translate well, if at all.

I think the most important thing is if you have to do too much convincing, then perhaps there are bigger issues. One would hope that the significant other might agree that you should have something special, so long as there are not other considerations at play (e.g., you want to spend money that the two of you were setting aside for a home or car purchase or some other large ticket purchase).

When I bought my first higher-end swiss watch, my wife was all for it, and said "go ahead, you deserve it." The same with the sports car purchase (although that was engineered a bit with a tennis bracelet a few months in advance).

I assume the 1 ct. solataire ring might have been an engagement present? Perhaps you can suggest the watch is something you have always wanted and would like it to be technically a gift from her relative to the engagement and/or wedding, albeit financed by you?

Perhaps there has been some recent professional milestone you attained or are about to attain (making partner in a law firm, winning the big account, etc).

Now let me get this straight, Hammer. You got your wife a 1 ct diamond last year and you got your GF a Rolex for her birthday.

Why do you need your wife's OK to the get the EXP. If she throws you out, you can fall back on the GF.

No No Rock, I am the one who got the bride her 1ct diamond solitaire.

I have just bought her a Tagliamonte gold medalion on a 14ct 45cm gold chain, so I am now all OK for the Rolex!

Ah, I see what happened. Hammer may have block copied your post, Steve, and didn't qet the whole thing to show that it was a quote. So I mistakenly thought it was all one post.

Actually, it sounds more fun the way I had it.
