I miss it, too, Oscar. Loved it when you'd pop in and say hey.

Sometimes I wish we could stop things from ever changing.

Yesterday, I was at Border's bookstore and saw a book about the life of a Panda and thought of you. Are you sure your doughnuts aren't filled with bamboo shoots???

Wow, I hope not. I get tired of those bloody bamboo shoots, and like a special treat now and then.

Krispy Kreme has introduced a line of banana donuts. One is something like banana-caramel coffee cake, but shaped like a donut and not like a coffee cake, of course.

Leo, I want you to know I have eschewed our yard guy (he's just been too busy lately) and have taken up planting my own flowerbeds. In addition to the butterfly garden, I've planted climbing roses along the back fence, along with some creeping phlox, iris from my mom's house, and an assortment of other odds and ends. When it fluffs out a little I'll get some pics.

By the way, three of the rose plants arrived bare-root, which was kind of daunting. The other three came in their own little pots - amazing that they survived being stuffed into a priority mail box and tossed onto my porch!

I miss it too...
I tried to keep it alive for awhile, but was just talking to myself...

I'm so glad this day is over... I found out I'm really not a fan of Easter anymore!

Thinking about making a career change too, but don't have a clue what to do?

Lisa, good to see you here, girl!

Thanks Chris, good to see you too! How's Olivia? Any pics you want to share?

I had a nice day with friends, really! I think I just miss my (overseas) family too much during this day. It was (and still is) always a big deal at my grandma's house. I wish I was there...

Career change?! But... but... but.... I thought you loved your work.

Yup - Easter is hard work when there's little kiddos around. And I can't sleep for all the caffeine in the chocolate that I pilfered.

I do love the work... I just don't get to do much of it lately with all the other stuff I need to do, because we just don't have enough people working. The customer's are getting to me too...

Olivia is doing great, super active, tons of energy. She still has 10 fingers and 10 toes, what more could a parent want?

I miss home (HI) around the holidays too. Know that feeling.

Lisa, many plants come/shipped bare root...when you dig your hole you spread the roots out and cover them up. As a suggestion buy a starter fertilizer which is made for transplanting and follow the directions. By the way Congrats!!!

So far I have bought two tomato plants(Early Girl and Sweet 100 Cherry Tomatoes)and a Red Bell Pepper but have not planted them as we had a hard frost this past Friday. I also bought an evergreen shrub(Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Nana Gracilis'-Hinoki Cypress and an evergreen Chamaecyparis nootkatensis pendula-Weeping Nootka False Cypress tree. Both are already planted and fertilized.....remember to water your newly planted plants everyday for a month(unless it rains)and then a couple times a week all spring and summer!!!

Happy Spring.....

Thanks for the pointers, Leo. I took care in planting the roses - dug a big hole, used good compost and soil, a little fertilizer, lots of water. hope they'll do well. One variety was grafted onto root stock and the graft line is at/slightly below the soil level. The other variety is own-root. Those plants were so little - they have a lot of catching up to do.

Lisa, your plants sound wonderful remember to mulch with a wood bark like Cypress Mulch(remember to mulch those graft unions before winter) or Redwood Bark and remember, as a reminder, to water everyday(very important). Please take pictures when they start growing and when they flower. Are you still planning on planting some perennials and annuals as well???

I did. I put another azalea in the corner that gets too much shade for a rose bush... and I've got a border of Dusty Miller. That, along with a couple of marigolds, some sedum and several dianthus, fills things out pretty well and leaves room for growing. Except for the corner, the entire bed gets a full day of sunlight. We've got some sunflowers, a cotton plant, potato, and ornamental gourds in a little spot at the other end for the kids to tend.
