You're welcome. Our machine isn't plumbed in--I didn't want to cut a hole in the countertop--so we only have the pre brew option, but you'll have both available.

I had a good single-boiler prior to that purchase (Diadema Perfetta) but the Rocket is so much easier to use and with a good bean, seems to produce a good to great result even when I stuff up grind/dose/tamp. And it's Sooo pretty....

Does anyone know if the Rocket Mozzafiato Evo R can be programmed to do pre-infusion?

I can do it manually but wondering if it's possible to program it to run automatically?

My machine has an eco mode and I saw some videos where some bottons can be pressed on the PID display to also turn on and select time length for pre-infusion but cannot seem to access it on my machine. Nothing in the manual either.

I appreciate any help.

I am looking to gift my brother a good espresso coffee for his birthday. My tastes are all light roasted pour over coffees (typically east african single origins) and the nuances of espresso are a mystery to me. I gave him an espresso coffee last summer from my vendor (Huck in Denver) and he wasn't enamored with it.

Can I get a recommendation for an espresso you like that is available online? TIA

Trade Coffee might be an option. Subscription service that will do single bags. A little “gift cardy“ but maybe that’s a better option for someone with specific tastes. -dustin gave me the reco on here several years ago and it’s been great.

Trade also has a way to prepay for a year of coffee, which will net you (your bro) a free bag if you want to go big.

Espresso nuances are very personal. After about 4 years of Trade subscription, I've landed on Temple Dharma (California), and Cuvee Karmadillo (here in Austin). Consistently awesome.

The Dharma is an exceptional coffee. I used to live in Sacramento, and shoutout to Temple as well for making some of the most consistent espresso drinks.

Pangolin out of Reno is fantastic as well.

Fortunately, we have some excellent local roasters so it's easier and cheaper to run the machine. I'll definitely give the Cuvee Karmadillo a try.

We have a subscription for this: https://kauaicoffee.com/collections/...0090bd2f&_ss=c
It's my favorite espresso I've ever had. I love that island, I love the beans, I loved the people that I met there, I love that it's locally-owned & operated.

Ken - (Rolextellstime) sorry to be slow to respond Re the question about 'Pre-infusion'.
As a completely 'manual' machine, the Rocket does not have any digital/programmable features such as 'Pre-infusion'. It is a feature that also interested me and I also did a bit of research in order to be clear that there was not some sort of 'Pre-infusion' feature built in. There is nothing mentioned in the Manual but I do note that the Timer shows 4-5 seconds before the pour begins to come through. Now, is this just normal for an espresso machine, or is there a few seconds of 'Pre-infusion' going on here? I don't know. With my previous Manual machine, I used to fake a quick 'Pre-infusion' before running the shot but the Rocket does such a good job that I don't bother. I fancy I did see something about this - maybe on a Youtube review of this machine - but it was a while ago and maybe I am imagining it.
Many full-automatic machines claim to have 'Pre-infusion' among their standard features but I have never owned an Automatic as I have never had a decent cup of coffee out of one. I prefer to control the variables.

The Cuvee Karmadillo arrived today. With a slight adjustment to the grind, I pulled a shot and it was phenomenal. Thanks for posting that recommendation.

Sweet, glad that worked out. I don't know if it's a new roast for them, or if it's just new to Trade. I've gotten other roasts from Cuvee and was sorta 'meh' about them. Karmadillo, though, is my jam.

Gonna be rebuilding my E61 group head this weekend. 7yrs. It's time. We'll see how this goes...

Great setup - look forward to hearing how you like the mini. We have one in our bar and it is great - keeps the espresso martinis flowing. If you (or anyone else) is still interested in a lagom, PM me. I barely used mine given the steps involved. It's like new. I know many love those steps. My new grinder combo is ultra automatic and life altering! S65 GBW with puqpress. Like cheating. A little tight for the space though...

Dang that’s a setup. You might as well cut a hole in the wall and start taking orders from the neighbors. I’ve been to small coffee shops that have a similar setup as you haha

Thanks for the response, appreciate it. Love the coffee that I get from the Rocket machine so the pre-infusion would probably not make a difference anyway. In retrospect, keep kicking myself for not buying the Rocket machine earlier. Coffee is really next level.

Well she’s landed. I’m very much a novice so it took me about 8 shots to dial in a money shot. I’m using a 14g basket with 15g of coffee in and 30g espresso out in ~30 seconds. My wife prefers a stronger pour so I’ll have to dial the 21g basket as well for her morning coffee. It would probably be much easier to just dial the 21g and then split the shot for mine. In time I’m confident I’ll be where I want to be.

Also I ended up setting up this impromptu station in my dining room as my wife is currently using the most logical spot in the kitchen for our newborns bottles and other kit. I’m tempted to put a wet bar in here and keep it there but will wait and see.

Cheers and I’ll share a coffee pic when I get my latte art passable lol

Congratulations, that looks fantastic. So nice having a pro level setup at home.

It does take a little effort to dial it in, especially when you change beans/roasts, or as a bag ages. It's different as well when you have pre-brew and pre-infusion options, temp adjustments, etc. What espresso beans are you using, and do you like them?

Thanks, I’m currently running it at 93 C and 2S pre brew. I’m using some beans from my local coffee shop that roasts 4-5 varieties at any given time. I can see how people may prefer to just pick a bean that’s more commercially available and get 5lbs and be done with it but I’ve always liked their coffee so that’s where I started.

I may have to be less OCD and just drink that 20s pull or 42 sec pull lol with some milk if I’m going to be constantly changing to avoid waste during dial in.

Currently using the steam on level 1 until I figure out what the heck I’m doing haha. Right now my technique is tip in slight angle and pray I can turn the knob off fast enough before I actually do burn them lol

Haha, I know what you mean. When you clear the steam wand you almost need an arm extender. First time I tried it on 2 I burned my foot. I tried 3 for a day and stepped back down. LOL

Really exciting. Every morning is special. Enjoy!

Thanks! I bought a pizza oven recently and the pizzas went from so so to fantastic so now I’m excited to get this locked in over time. Old repetition will be my friend.

Thanks Bas. So far I have zero complaints. Me using this to make morning coffee for my wife and I is a bit like me wearing my sub to go swim in the pool but I’m happy and would recommend it to others on the fence.
