Sorry Chris I will leave this alone, not sure why I get so worked up on certain comments on the 216570

Just my .02 tough guy..........I'm not here to entertain you or tell anyone what Rolex should charge......it just doesn't look or feel like a $7,750 watch.....to me!!!!! The Expy has always been an entry level Rolex watch........not that I don't think its a great looking watch.......quite frankly, I love it.

As far as the other models you mentioned, they generally hold their value pretty well and I'll be sure to let you know first what I pay for them every time I make an offer on one....never paid MSRP on a new one, regardless of the year or model. Turkeyboy you are hilarious. The 216570 is not my only Rolex timepiece so I'm not concerned, note for you, with the exception of my first Rolex timepiece and my 216570 I have never paid MSRP for any of my Rolex timepieces, Subs, Milgauss, GMT's, etc. The only piece I do not own is a Daytona... Tough guy? Who says that? Didn't mean to offend you... Hmmm... on another note...

Shame that some paid over list or even list for the new Explorer II as it's not even the end of the year and already they're easy to come by and can be had at a discount, not to mention being a dime a dozen already on the secondary market. I've seen and handled them and they're ok but I still like the 16570 better as it's way lighter and wears much more comfortable. At appx. 162 grams the new Exp. II is just way too heavy, big and bulky IMO.

I think it is a new model that people are excited about so they havent been able to meet all the demand all over the world. My guess is they upped production, and within 6 months these will be staples in every AD's window, just like the subc (which was also initially had to get) is now.
How does it wear for you Chris? I'm definetly intrigued by it I just haven't had a chance to go and try it on yet.

It it definitely not worth $7,750 - I'm with you on this.

Folks will pay this, however, and demand is high enough to keep charging this so there's nothing you or I can do about it.

Thank you for your comment and this is why I am genuinely curious what folks think the price should be on the 216570 or any new Rolex timepieces? I read people saying the price is not worth it but no one can quote a price... I recall someone on another thread saying they picked up a pre-owned 216570 for around $6k...

Few SS MSRP examples;

SubLV - $9,150
Milgauss GV - $7,650
GMT - $7,900
Daytona - $12,950
Yacht-Master - $11,200

What I think are fair prices may differ from one person to another. Sorry Paul for the mini-hijack.

Here's what I think they should be:

SubLV - $6,250
Milgauss GV - $4,750
GMT - $5,900
Daytona - $8,950
Yacht-Master - $7,000

Explorer II - $5,750

We can dream, can't we?

I personally feel as though Rolex's prices have gotten out of hand in the past few years. I get the reasons why, but nearly $13,000 for the Daytona is just ludicrous.

Finally someone has stepped up!!!! Thank you sir for your honesty! I will pass this along with my assessments to Mr. Michael Elms at Rolex after the holidays!

To the original post, I actually got a call this morning from a saleswoman at the Fashion Valley Ben Bridge telling me they have a white dial at their store in Seattle and if I wanted to put down a deposit, they could have it here this week. I went into BB last week looking for one and she didn't have any but told me she would call if she tracked one down. I told her today that I didn't want to put anything down to take a look at a watch. I'll wait till they are plentiful. It is tough waiting just to try one on when other cities have several just sitting in the case.

My opinion is that in less than a year, the Exp42 will be readily available in every AD. They are scarce right now because they were just released. Same was the case for every piece Rolex redesigns...the Deep Sea, GMTIIc, Sub, etc. Whether or not it's worth the price is up to the consumer. Another AD has the old 16570 listed at $6950 which I think is sort of crazy...the new 42mm is only $800 more.

Oddly enough I got a call from Royal Maui in the same mall saying they got one in yesterday. I like it but am going to hold off, if you want to see one give them a call they probably still have it.

Is this true? Has anyone seen them sitting in display cases? Do you think Rolex would (try to) do this to this model too?
Ben Bridge in Houston was trying to pull the same act with my wife when she was in there the other day. They had a white dial in stock/display and was trying to sell her on how scarce and rare it was - more so than the SS Daytona.

I was in a Tornado store in Naples, FL over the weekend and they had a new white one in the case, they also had the old version there as well. I tried them both on and really liked the new 42mm a lot! great watch!! for anyone up in the air on this watch, be sure to try it on. I think the proportions are great and much better than the 39mm version.

Also, having now seen the Exp II in person, I think the older 16570 in polar is a much nicer - looking watch. Can't warm up to the orange sweep hand on the Exp II; plus I think the larger dial is too big visually for the bracelet. But, to each his own.

Saw 2 in Atlanta this week - in AD displays, so don't think this watch can hold a candle to Daytona scarcity.

Maybe this is just a typo, however, the Orange hand does not sweep, it is a GMT hand for telling time in different timezones... Here are two pictures of the original To this day my father still does not understand why I want to acquire a 1655, similar to today as everyone knows this specific model was not popular. Only if I can rewind time and if I was born in the 70's!!!

Oh, and good luck with that 1655 search
Paul as promised and thanks for your well wishes on my quest to find a complete 1655

Here is my attempt at a fair critique after a few months with my 216570 (open to criticism ). I borrowed Watch Times grading system for this.

Bracelet & Clasp: Similar to the newer age GMT models the clasp on the Oyster lock bracelet is super sturdy, comfortable with the easylink feature, beautiful, secure, and highly reliable - 10.

Operation: The large screwdown crown is easy to use, standard Rolex hack mechanism and GMT date change nothing special here - 3.

Case: Very robust at 42mm but not overbearing, high quality craftsmanship, houses the new 3187 movement (wish I could see it ). - 10

Design: Taking que's from the 1655 model 4 decades ago the updates with the case, bracelet and guts (paraflex shock absorber and antimagnetic Parachrom breguet hairspring) make the 216570 a beauty inside and out. The hands complement the increase to 42mm perfectly. - 9

Legibility: Unlike the 1655 this iteration is super legible under day and night conditions. - 10

Wearing comfort: Despite the case's thickness, the 216570 is comfortable to wear. It’s not too heavy and the clasp can be adjusted perfectly on your wrist. - 9

Movement: Caliber 3187 as we have been hearing all along. I'm no expert here so I borrowed this from the net - This movement incorporates the PARAFLEX shock absorbers and the non-magnetic PARACHROM hair- spring, two technologies developed and patented by Rolex. On this new EXPLORER II, the characteristic 24-hour hand, with its arrow shape and orange color, is directly inspired by the 1971 model. As an additional nod to the original EXPLORER II, on the black dial version, the “phantom-effect” hands seem to “float” over the dial thanks to their black base. I give it a 10.

Value: Though the price is high compared to its predecessor, it reflects many
improvements. As most say here wait around for the secondary market to enjoy some savings. - 13

Enjoyment: Simply because I was not born in the era to pick up a 1655 to enjoy and dissect the reference I have to give my enjoyment factor on the 216570 a 10. I can only imagine how heated the conversations were 4 decades ago when fans of the explorer chose the 1655 over the Sub or GMT lines It also helps that I have been able to connect one TRF member who lives on the West Coast with an AD in the midwest to track down the Polar version. These are truly good times. Go Mifune aka Speed aka my main man Bill I know you feel this piece is not setting the watch world ablaze, however, I have never seen so many horology enthusiast bash a timepiece so badly before, oh well as the saying goes different strokes for different folks Thanks all for reading
