I travel quite a bit for work and its 50/50 as to taking off my watch. It's never been an issue when I haven't and when I do, I just put it in my laptop bag. The lines, even the priority lines, are usually long enough to stash your watch when you are on line.

I never take my watch off. When asked to take it off I refuse. After they ask twice and I say no they usually let me pass.

I used to take it off and put it in my backpack or briefcase but when I traveled last week I noticed other travelers kept theirs on. So I did the same with issues. It's a crapshoot traveling these days.

Now that the summer is over I fly every other week if not every week. My laptop bag has several compartments including some internal pockets that zip. My watch and any other valuable get zipped in right before I go through and come out as soon as I clear security. Never an issue not a thought, just keep it simple.

I wont take my chances. Since I usually have a backpack or something to carry pillow or whatever I also have a watch carry case, so before security I place my watch there, put inside the bag and thats it.

Nowadays, we can't blame security for being paranoid. Neither can we blame ourselves for worrying.
I don't travel often, but when I do, I put all our watches or valuables in a concealed, zippered pocket of the carry on, send my wife/friend through the scanner first and then they will wait at the other end for the carry on after I put it in. If they really want to nick our valuables, they will have to hide inside the scanner. |

I take 200+ flights a year, and in some airports, you HAVE TO take the watch off. No questions and you do not want to mess with airport security in those countries. As stated before, Oakley vault inside my carry on with belt, wallet and cell before security gives me peace of mind and also expedites screening.

99 times out of 100, I am never asked to remove my watch. On the couple occasions where I was asked, I simply refused and insisted on a wand search. They looked at me kind of crazy, but when the watch on your wrist is worth more than the annual salaries of the TSA agent inspecting me, they can think anything they want! Can't be too careful!

I also have a Global Entry Card that let's me skip much of the screening process. If you spend any amount of time up in the air, in and out of The States, Global Entry is a no brainer.

I always just leave mine on. My titanium knee sets off the metal detectors in every airport I go through, so I get searched every time regardless.

Seems like the consensus is.. ' Do Not Remove ' - Until Asked to, then, Respectfully Decline..
. IMO, That, is the best policy..!! - But, hey, It's your watch - Do as you see fit..!! If you want to 'cow-down'/ cower / back-down, to that, than so be it. I wont..!! (within reason..of course..).!

You guys are so funny, it is just a watch. Just wear the darn thing like the thousands of others do.
I just flew twice the past week and only one time did they even mention my watch, they just looked closer at my wrist with gloved hands, 2 seconds. The other time, they did not even say a thing.

Not only do I wear mine through the metal detectors and the milliwave scanner, but when I have asked TSA what to do, they say wear it. Same thing for my large gold ring.
Now if I had to take it off, into the zippered pocket of my carryon it goes, hopefully with enough time to slip it into an Oakley case or the Rolex travel pouch, all to avoid scratching. |

I just traveled for the first time with my Rolex. I flew out of DFW and after reading this thread i was curious and asked the security person about removing my watch. They told me to keep it on. They don't have the metal detectors, but even with the metal detector they can wand you if necessary. Wouldn't sweat it.

Any airport I fly through in Brasil the watch has to come off. Primary screening its off, there's usually 2 more points after that for screening and I don't have to take it off. Goes into my backpack for the primary.

In my experience flying frequently domestic and sometimes internationally, I never had to take off my watch once. Whether it be good luck or normal procedure, it has always stayed on my wrist. With that said, I always prepare properly for the TSA checkpoints, belt off, nothing in pockets, no jacket etc.

Hi All, I heard about this, Lots of personal is ready to sell Rolex watches in India with high discount but actually this brand never provide too much discount so you can understand that my point how can they sell these branded watches at high discount. It is possible, they stole the watches from airports or take watch without paying stamp duty..

More likely those watches are fakes, or stolen in volume. Still, welcome to TRF!
