SubC Date vs SD4C on my wrist

I like the look of the SDc on your wrist. Can't lose with either as they are both amazing pieces.

One piece of advice: remove the diver's extension on the SD if that is your choice, for a better fit.

While waiting to have the bracelet fitted on a Sub I had decided to purchase, I off-handedly asked to try the SD and DSSD. DSSD too big, but the SD? Oh, my!

Which did I get for my 7.25" wrist?



Using the Glide Lock, I've had no problems with fit while keeping the Diver's extension.

Sdc: better looking lugs, no cyclop.

Subc: Less busy bezel, lower profile.

Size difference should should be negligible. But height could be an issue depending on your wrist. The subc doesn't sit well on my wrist because of the doomed caseback, can only imagine sdc to be even more so.

If height and fit are not an issue, i think Sdc looks better.

Completely agree, 99% of us are paying $2k more for slimmer lugs. Lugs that I've grown to love, especially when the Subs on a strap. The larger lugs are not noticeable to me when they're not up against the tapering bracelet.

Knowing both watches, I think the SDc accommodates a smaller wrist better. But you have to consider the slightly higher casing and your attire. Unless you have your shirt custom tailored I feel it's a bit too high for the dress shirt wearer. It's a tool watch after all. If sartorial issues are not of your concernits sea dweller all the way...besides being a bit more rare...

I was having the same considerations a few months ago, though I probably would have been choosing between the SubC ND and SDc, as I'm not big on the cyclops. People comment on the over sized lugs on the SubC but imho the crown guards are just as obtrusive and over sized on the watch. I chose the SDc as the watch is better balanced in my eyes, with the nicer lugs and crown guards, date with no cyclops and I liked the newer bezel design more too. Each to their own of course but I'm very happy with my decision. Good luck with your choice, and in reality you can't go wrong as they are both great watches.

SD4K looks better IMHO. I made the same choice with about the same wrist size.

Had both the 114060 & 116610, sold them and finally settled on the SD4K as my ceramic diver. Much prefer the classic lugs and dimensions. It's just a cool watch that not everyone has. I've loved it from day one.

Thanks again for the further feedback. Regarding removing the diver's extension, is this something easy enough to do on your own, or should the dealer do it? I will be getting the watch in Japan in a few weeks, so I'm hoping I am able to communicate this request to whichever dealer I buy from.

About the thickness of the SD under a dress shirt, this hopefully will not be an issue. Most of my dress shirts have French cuffs and should have an opening big enough for a large watch. Plus, I will probably wear my Datejust if I'm dressed up enough anyway. This upcoming purchase is more for a daily wear.

Imo, sd4k has more refined overall design which is also very balanced; transition from the lug to bracelet looks more pleasing on my wrist (7.25 in). To me, cyclops was really distracting to look at the watch because of the magnified date.

SD4K. It's different. Not everyone has one. The lugs are great as well as the dial and graduated bezel. Yes it sits higher on your wrist but you will get used to it. Good luck with whatever you decide

I would go SD as well. I have owned the subc date for a few months now, and while it's a great watch, I can't convince myself to like the maxi case. I try, but from certain angles, it just appears to boxy. I find the cyclops to be a pretty cool feature, but a bit distracting as well. The sd is much more legible.
Don't be like me, get the right choice the first time.

I am slowing coming around to the SDc...wasn't a fan at first, but man that thing looks so good on your wrist. Kind of a different in a subtle way from the classic sub look.

Point #1: Easy to do with the proper screwdriver - same as you would use to remove a link or two. I took the extension off of mine & it took me about 10 mins start to finish. When I go on my next 4K dive I will re-install it.

Point #2: I mostly wear my SD4K on weekends and with casual clothes so can't really comment here.

Bottom line for me: The SD4K is a great watch that checks my boxes for a modern Rolex. Classic dimensions + all of the modern upgrades = watch awesomeness. The SD4K and my GMT IIC are my favorite modern versions of those iconic watches... by far!

From a choice between the two prospective I gave up both the 114060 & 116610LN for the 116600, the 116600 is my favourite SS Rolex by far!

However even though the 116600 is my fav I missed the simplicity of the 114060 on a nato strap so I've just picked up another just for that.

Agreed. I have a SubC, tried the SD4000 and flipped it right quick. I found it be too thick and top heavy. SubC all the way!
