The answer to this question is independent of the watch you choose or its cost.

OP, one day you’re going to be dead for a very long time. It’s your money that you’ve earned and you do not have to justify your expenditure to anyone else (apart from your wife on occasion). Do it

I look at it this way.

People will spend thousands on guitars, cars, computers whatever you Name it. You and I choose to spend it on a watch

Do what you want and who cares what others think

Get the watch. Those who dont understand never will. For me, my Rolex habit has nothing to do with anyone other than myself.

I made the finances work. I’m very happy with my watches. Don’t really care what anyone else thinks...

Go buy your watch

If these concerns are truly resonating in your mind when you're thinking about buying a watch, then don't buy it. You may end up feeling uncomfortable and self conscience wearing it. If you can comfortably swing it and your on the fence, then you can always sell it and lose a few bucks but at least you know versus having any regrets not buying it.

If you have to think about it that much... maybe it’s not for you.

There’s people on this forum who saved up for years, who can clearly remember the first time they saw a Rolex, who have a burning passion for these watches. I don’t mean this in a disrespectful way at all. But there is a difference between really wanting something and toying with the idea. When I fell in love with my wife I didn’t sit and make a list of pros and cons. Granted a wife and a watch are COMPLETELY different but my point is when you want something it will not matter what others say.

When I first saw your post I assumed that you were in your 20's or early 30's, but at 50 it is long overdue.

But I would deeply consider getting the Submariner over the SD43 as that was the one you always wanted.

Few people will know how much the thing costs, unless you tell them. Don’t worry about it.

50 years old?

I think at that point in your life, you have more than earned the right to do whatever makes you happy.

Don't worry about the people that don't understand.

Buying what you want and can afford must override what others want of you, or what kind of life is this? And whose?

I also initially thought he was talking about paying a 2K premium on the D500, ie in UK this would be £11K.

Of course you should get it.

All I would add is to buy it at the best possible price...just in case your wife is right.

Better to regret things you have done than things you haven't.

Buy it, wear it. You will know if its for you or not.

If not, sell it and move on.

Otherwise spend your life wondering "What if?"

In my youth, I never hesitated to talk to and ask out a beautiful girl if I had the opportunity.

The vast majority blew me off, a few were insulting, and a few said yes. One gorgeous young lady even slapped me.
I don't regret any of it. What kind of life would it be if you never had a beautiful girl agree to go out with you, or if you never had been slapped across the cheek by a drop dead lovely red head with blazing green eyes?

Be glad you have the opportunity and the resources to do it, then buy the ticket and take the ride.

Life is short. Don't make it boring as well.

Reverse engineer that sentiment:

"You are a jerk; if, you do not make the purchase that you have more than earned the right to"

See, make it work for you, not against you!
