Let's face it. The two are such great, iconic watches, odds are you're gonna end up with both.

So, it's more of a question of which one you get first. And, it sounds like you've already got that figured out.

Sub has brushed oyster bracelet vs jubilee or PCL oyster for GMT - I prefer the jubilee
Sub has glidelock clasp vs e-z link for GMT - I prefer the glidelock
Sub has a 60-min bezel vs GMT which has a 24h bezel - I prefer the 24h bezel
Sub has all black or all green bezel, GMT has bi-color bezel - I prefer bi-color
Sub is a basic 3-hand watch with date vs GMT which has a 4th GMT hand - I prefer 4

Went with GMT. I actually have a BLRO on jubilee, and a BLNR on a submariner bracelet (for the glidelock). Problem solved.

My two favorite Rolex models--I own both. When I fly the GMT, when home the Submariner. If I had to choose the GMT wins out. Although brushed oyster bracelet with glidelock makes a perfect watch when combined with the GMT.

You will get both.

I have one of each in (5 digit, 6 digit 11xxxx, 6 digit 12xxxx) for a total of 6 combined.

Sub has a thicker case back (for water rating) and sits higher up on the wrist. GMT sits a lot more comfortably on the wrist. 100M water rating of GMT is more than I need (I have done all my water activities with my datejusts and GMTs no problem.)

Sub's clasp Glidelock is the best option to have, especially if you share your watch with your significant other, the range of adjustment helps a lot. if it is just you, the easy link in the GMT will be good enough.

the bezel of GMT is 'busy' compared to the Sub, and honestly, unless you are a business traveler that needs switching time zones all over, frankly the GMT functionality is really not that important. Again, if I were a pilot flying from Hong Kong to Paris and then to New York and then to LA and then to ... then I would not live without the quick set hour adjustment... but for an occasional travel, you know what the time is back home.

GMT has polished center links in oyster, makes it dressier and more blingy.

So I suggest go with the bezel look (busy vs. less numbers), shine of center links (if going oyster on GMT, I like it a lot), and the thickness difference (if you are wearing this day in day out, GMT will be easier to accommodate.)

If you aren’t a professional using them for the intended purposes, to me, it comes down to tracking 2/3 timezones vs. the timing bezel on the sub.
Agreed.

Not terrible to use the bezel for generally timing something on the gmt if you set the triangle to the current minute-ish. If you need something more precise than that for timing a situation, wear a chronograph or use your phone (or, I guess, get the sub).

The multiple time zones feature is more practical and interesting imo but they’re fairly different looks wise and that’s what I’d focus on since the OP didn’t state a professional need (and let’s be honest, most of those aren’t satisfied with mechanical watches).

If you need to track multiple time zones, then definitely the GMT. If that function is a novelty, then go sub. I had a GMT and although I do miss it sometimes, I found it too “busy” for my liking. I enjoy the simplicity and legibility of the sub, especially the bezel.

Well that was premature of me. Just yesterday I said I wasn't a fan of the Sub and literally today I bought one.

Turns out I liked it more than I thought!

I have both. I'd give the slight edge to the GMT for the slimmer case back and pop of color. Try both on if you can.

I did not want a cyclops and with my modest budget the 14060 sub was a no brainer for me :)

Gmt. It’s much more useful (assuming you want to track a second time zone), as it can be used as a dive watch as well (also assuming you’re not a hard-core diver.

It’s perhaps not as iconic, but I think it’s the better option.
