Date. I don’t wear the sub for its symmetry. Plenty of other watches that do that better.

Owners and admirers of the submariner, do you prefer the submariner with date or no date?

I prefer the submariner no date and own the 114060. I like the clean and symmetrical dial without the date and the smooth top without the cyclops. Wish they released submariner no dates in more colours.
this is literally the first time it's ever been discussed. jk

Long time debate/discussion and of course there's no right or wrong. IMO, I'd go with a date for pure functionality. That said I admit the ND is much more aesthetically pleasing.

I wouldn’t clutter up such a perfect design with a cyclops.

This has been posted sooooo many times

What's the point... Most ppl prefer date. There is your answer.

Most people who prefer regular sub appear to be more inclined to voice that preference or claim that they have that preference even though they may be simply convincing themselves and others that they do...

End of discussion

End of discussion, huh? I would guess that most "regular" people do prefer the sub date. This board and others who nerd out over watches might have a slight preference for the sub for reasons already given. There probably is a difference between TRF and the rest of the world when it comes to this choice, but your reasoning is pretty weird tbh. Why would a sub owner on TRF be trying to convince himself that he prefers the sub over the sub date?

Without date for the symmetry and lack of cyclops.

I think I am the minority here but 5 digit I prefer the date. The 5 digit I prefer no-date. They look dainty and antique and the lack of cyclops kind of fits the theme.

That’s a tough one because I have a 14060M Two Liner and a 16610. Lately I’ve been all about the perfectly simple No Date Sub. Something about the clean dial of a two liner.

Thanks for agreeing with me.

Yes I had a friend who fell in that category. It's weird? Lol. I suppose. It's somewhat analogous to SOME of the people that claim the prefer the black Daytona over the White Daytona crowd. That is, they claim it, they tell everyone, and they tell people again, and sometimes even create threads specifically on that subject.

Even on trf, I believe you will find the majority prefer the submariner date

But enjoy. They are both really great!

The current poll shows that TRF members prefer the sub 57% to 43%. Are you suggesting that some percentage of the majority lied and voted for the sub? Yeah, I don't think so.

Your Daytona analogy fails because the sub is reportedly more difficult to pick up than the date sub. I don't think that anyone wearing a sub is trying to convince themselves or anyone else their watch is what they wanted when its not actually true.

For the record I have a 16610 and 124060 and love them both. If forced to pick, the 124060 is my favorite. Of course, I could just be lying...

I truly believe he is correct. This forum years ago led me to the sub without a date. I think it is because it makes sense for collectors to like a sub without a date to go with ones with the dates like the GMT and datejusts. My friends outside the forum all have and prefer the sub with date. I concur with them as it is iconic Rolex with the cyclops. ADs also receive more subs with dates as there is more of a demand. I had the 114060 twice, the 124060, along with multiple datejust and GMTs. Hoping I can just move on with my 126610LN and be content, so far so good!
