You need to speak to my 12 year old, Raf. She really wants a mustache and laments only having the stick-on kind out of the vending machines.

Maybe she hasn't figured out what's causing the problem, Raf.

Old moms are the best! Congratulations, Raf. Lots of built-in babysitters, I hope.

(you know my youngest was born shortly before I turned 44!)

I don't like lamb either. My wife's mother used to serve it at holidays but I'd just eat more broccoli and potatoes.

How's everyone's week going? I am having a busy week at work and then taking care of my "patient" in the evening. He is doing well. Been to work all week. Just a tad sore. Gotta take my son for shots and a haircut on Friday- that will be a long day.

Chicfarmer was your dinner a success? Sounds like you prepared a delicious menu. Do you butcher the lambs yourself? I don't know if I could do that...

Lisa How is the purse hunt going? Did you find a replacement for your Lucky?

Both of you were discussing remodeling earlier. We decided to remodel our master bath last summer. The contractors said it would only take 6 weeks or so~ HAH!! Imagine being eight months pregnant with a double vanity, toilet, and tiles all stacked up in your bedroom, it was a mess. And the whirlpool tub sat on our front porch. We looked like Sanford and Son!!!

Hey, my husband has the same question about butchering the lambs. He figures you shoot them and do it yourself. Do tell!

Shannon, just yesterday I bought the exact purse I already own - the same old Lucky - from an Ebay seller. It was unused, new condition. Sounds a bit crazy, but I hadn't found any other bags I liked as much as this one. So now I'll have two - an old beat up one and a new one.

Home renovations - difficult under any conditions, much more so when big and preggo, and chasing after a toddler to boot. I feel for you!

Glad your husband's doing well - sounds like he's taking it all in stride.

You guys are so cute. Nobody really cares about this stuff.

But: I could never do any sort of butchering, not in me in the least. Aside from which, it's not legal to home butcher if you do any selling.

We load the lambs into the pickup truck and drive them a few miles to the processor. This is the type of business that's in the Yellow Pages as "Meat Processing." It's licensed and also certified to handle organically raised meats as well as non. That is all. Then, we pick up the lamb as frozen butcher-paper-wrapped (or vacuum sealed) cuts of meat, marked as to cut. I give them cutting instructions for the customers and myself.
--
Shannon, I sympathize about living through renovations. So far, kitchen tear-out has been the worst.

Lisa: I had a feeling you'd rebuy your beloved Lucky. Problem solved!

Ok, nighty to all.

Worst job ever.
To go to work each day and make baby sheep dead.
How does that read on a resume? Imagine the interview questions for promotion: "Please describe how you distinguished yourself from the other lamb killers?"
I get it. That's where meat comes from. I'd just rather shoot meat from a distance. I'm such a softie. I'd never sleep.
I'm going to go give my dog a hug now.

Bill, on my last fishing trip (years ago!) we threw back everything we caught. I just couldn't kill them. Never bothered me when I was kid - taking home the bass and catfish and frying them up. Can't do it now.

^To Bill: I hope you aren't a consumer of animal products then. If you had any sense of comparison between my practices and commercial agriculture, the process that puts the food you buy shrink wrapped and stacked--from a distance of up to thousands of miles--into the supermarket, in terms of humaneness to both the animals and the people involved, you might come to a different conclusion. It's far too easy for the people who like to not know about the conditions under which their own food choices come from to take a potshot at those of us small-scale people who make our animals' lives as good as possible.

If you want to have a serious conversation about the ethics and the environmental, nutritional, and labor practices of raising food for the market, come back informed and we can continue.

(PS this is not my "job.")

And with this, I am done with that conversation. Sorry to have made anyone uncomfortable.

J - that's Bill's sense of humor - we understand where you're coming from. He's not taking potshots at you, and certainly not at the practices and philosophies you follow, I promise. Speaking for myself, I could understand and agree with you all day (and I do!) but I would have to find some way to detach emotionally from the animals and am not sure I could.

Well thank you for the explanation, Lisa. Fini, really.

So...I'm starting to think about adding a more tool/sport watch. I'm very attracted to the Omega Speedmaster and considering it. It ticks a lot of boxes for me. Can you tell me more about your Tudor? I know you said you're enjoying the Turn-O, but about the Tudor, which I know very little about...is it good on the wrist? Do you like the subdials?

Chicfarmer,
You misunderstand. I have NO problem with what you do, at all. Raising healthy food is a good thing. In fact I've found that, with all my health problems, I feel best when fortified with less preservatives and processed foods. I often say that if I went Amish (old school, natural, not factory processed/chemically enhanced) I'd probably feel well all the time. I couldn't handle the religious rigors though. LOL
I was just playing with the notion that somewhere there's a guy whose job it is to kill cute furry critters, every day, every week, and I have to imagine that, to me, that would be the worst job ever. Then my imagination took over and started funning with what an interview would be like. The worst day would be the day I made eye contact with the little buggers, and I am definitely not the guy to do the work. After thinking about it some, I do't have a problem with birds or fish. I guess I just prefer mammals. I admitted that I'm am softie, and I'm getting worse as I get older.
As said, I also support hunting for food. So yeah, no problem. Keep doing what you're doing. No doubt you'r healthier for it. I was just having a chuckle and I guess it didn't translate very well over the interweb. Lisa got it but we have known each other much longer so she sifted through the drivel and got to the 'meat' of what I was saying. Get it - meat. I slay me. There, I did it again. HA!

And I really did hug my dog but I probably would have anyway. I love my dog.

Sport watch... yes, those are quite nice and fun to wear... I know little about Omega ('cept for my little vintage one) but the Speedmaster is lovely. The Tudor Tiger is a great watch with a very sturdy and reliable ETA movement, though you'd have to be prepared to buy used as Tudor isn't currently available in the US (don't know if this will change soon, especially with the juicy new models released at Basel this year). And, the old chronograph like mine (Bill has one that's even nicer, matter of fact!) isn't produced anymore. Tudor does make a new, redesigned chronograph but it just isn't as appealing to my tastes.

I'm a big fan of preowned watches.... the old Tudor chronos can be had for around $2K.

Bill,
No foul. I missed the tone, my fault. Thank you. I love my dogs ridiculously much, too...they have a good time.

Yes, Lisa, I'm going preowned. I had no idea a Tudor could be had for that money...that may change my browsing then. What's the mm size of yours, and other Tudors? I just spotted the mini-sub on another thread...verrrry cute.

Dark indeed.
I can see it now:
The boss walks into the break room lined with Employee of the Month photos.
"Johnson, You're not putting up the numbers. Why can't you keep up with Smith? You've got to improve. Now go back out there and kill.

Oh man, I've got to stop. People are going to get the wrong impression.

Mine is 40mm, same (I think) as the Omega Speedy and the Rolex sports models. It wears big but once you get used to it it's quite comfortable, especially with the Tudor style jubilee bracelet.

The mini-sub I think is considered a ladies' sub. Not sure of its dimensions, nor if it's difficult to find, nor when it was made. Could be quite collectible for all I know.

That pic was taken before we took out the permanent link. It's snug now... I can't handle dangle-y heavy watches.

Something to think about, J - the 40mm sports watches are quite weighty - but you do get used to it.

Yes. But only to work and under long sleeves. Funny that the Rolex is 'more valuable' than the Tudor but I baby the Tudor and wear the Rolex for everything else. I really believe that the Tudor's features make it the ultimate, does everything right, watch yet I sometimes consider selling mine. Just haven't made the commitment yet.
