OK, we had a great time; 105 attendees on two luxury motorcoaches. I'll describe each, and the photos will be in order of the descriptions.
First stop, Galloping Hill Inn. They serve a custom beef and pork Grote & Weigel dog that is griddled. Excellent dog, served on a custom football shaped roll that is too big for the dog, so I usually get a double, with friend onions and mustard. My fave griddled dog, and they have Yeungling on tap. Rahway Grill, an all beef dog in a spicy way, made for the NJ market by Hatfield in PA. Griddled, and they have excellent chili. The Garage, serving dogs that were made famous at the now closed Syd's and Don's Drive In. These are five (Syd's) or four (Don's) to a pound all beef dog by Best Provisions. Don's would griddle them, and Syd's would first heat in water then gave you the choice of charcoal grill or griddle. Because of their large size just grilling or griddling sometimes doesn't get them heated through without burning the outside. Decent chili. For a lot of people the Best Provisions dogs are the favorite all beef hot dogs. The Garage does a nice job with them. Jimmy Buff's is the originator of the Italian Hot Dog-a Best Provisions beef dog fried and served with fried peppers, potatoes, and onions served in a pizza roll. Pizza rolls have nothing to do with pizza, except maybe they were once baked in pizza ovens? The are soft but sturdy round flattish rolls that are cut in quarters for single Italian dogs, and halves for doubles. You can get a nice griddled beef and pork Thumann's dog here, but most come for the Italian dogs. You can substitute Italian sausage for the hot dog, or have one of each in a double. Getty Grill specializes in Texas Weiners, which is a NJ variation that features mustard, finely chopped raw onion, and a thin, beanless chili that has cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice flavors. It all goes on a Thumann's beef and pork dog that is deepfried. Amazingly, they charge a buck apiece. Next up is Papaya King, which sells all beef Sabrett's dogs that are griddled. I passed, as I've eaten enough pushcart Sabrett's in my life, but I was told the dog went well with sauerkraut. Finally, Rutt's Hutt, my favorite. Beef and pork Thumann's dog, fried in beef tallow to varying levels-in and outer, ripper, weller (my choice), and cremator. Cremators are horrid. They're also known for their yellow relish, and the onion rings are great. |

For Swede...An early 5:00pm 26th anniversary grilled salmon in soy and brown sugar marinade with turnip puff and (yuk ; ) green salad.
I cover up my yucky salad with blue cheese and Catalina. The Riesling tasted surprisingly like Martini&Ross Asti, but without the fizz. ^Riesling^
