The H. Moser Thread

I have learned this the hard way, a few times

Yes I totally agree. I’ve seen this myself, and while I don’t buy anything with resale value in mind, it does affect the decision to buy for many collectors.

Unfortunately many multi brand retailers leverage moser purchases against Patek allocations and other brands. It’s very unfair for moser, and I believe it is the cause for moser watches losing so much value on the secondary market. Too many buyers are only doing so to get something else, so they dump their piece with greys at any price.

The great shame in this is that moser watches are special in their own right. But I also feel that they have not done themselves any favours by pushing their retail price so high.

I am very happy with the three Moser watches that I own, but with the retail price no getting so high, I’m reluctant to add more.

Such a cool piece, but I don't think I'll buy it... i still have 2 streamliners ( green & salmon ), exactly it look like more darker in real with a lot of shades .

I share this point of view, I also declined the streamliner small second blue enamel (even though I prefer it)... I think that the 11.5k difference with the 3 hands is not justified

honestly, moser priced their tourbillon pretty fairly, given the fact that they make their own hairspring

but because it's not one of the major brands out there, you can get it way cheaper in the secondary, which makes it a bigger value for money watch

i got my pioneer cylindrical tourb at more than 50% off and it's brand new

Well, i'd love a red dial Pioneer with the hmc 201 movement and both rubber straps (plural) and metal bracelet. There's an hmc 200 version used for $10k. i have the Moser Heritage with blue dial, purple haze, so i guesss red is next, but wow the 201 movement is seriously nice

the HMC201 is a far nicer movement, if i spot a streamliner green with the HMC201 with a good price, i will pull the trigger on it

I think during the COVID heydays and coinciding with their Streamliner launch, Moser's became a hot thing.

But I think traditionally, Moser's sell at a discount on the secondary after a few years. I think the discounting is starting to show on their models, even the Streamliners and Streamliner complications.

I recall when Moser started selling their Titanium sports model from Govberg boutiques (it was a boutique special I think), and they were trying to sell them like the usual "Hey, it's limited edition and a boutique only model"......and yet a real real short time later, I'm seeing the watch for resale on the 1916 Company website at a discount.

I'm not sure Govberg was able to sell all their inventory of that watch, and so shifted it over to 1916. I'm seeing that watch being sold for a discount all over the place on the secondary markets now. I think it originally went for $20k retail? I see models for sale in the $14k area.

Long winded way of saying, I'm not sure Moser was ever a value retention model over the breath of its lineup. We might just be returning to the mean.

Price aside, if i pretty please may say, the Streamliner is seriously a good value with the most sensually comfortable and extremely well created metal bracelet (and case too, but holy sh-t the bracelet is silky silky smooth). The quality and in-house bits are undisputedly H. Moser, as are the mesmerizing dials. Seeing the red dial Pioneer sold me instantly, but man with the HMC 201 movement, daaaamn, it'd be epic (and 'reasonably priced, if we can say such things towards enjoying an extravagant lifestyle).

jmho and I'll happily praise the Heritage too. Solid value, especially considering the silly pricing by others with their recent new releases at W&W.

again, jmho.

I stopped by NX One in Tokyo where I had a chance to see the perpetual calendar in tantalum along with the retrograde. The Amber Sand is mine in the picture. Honestly, I was a bit tempted on the retrograde, but not sure if I would enjoy it for a while.

that i 100% agree, i put in it on for a few mins and it contours to my wrist so well. my friend said the design came from a lobster tail and naturally it would fit that way lol

Beautiful. How do you set the minute hand accurately without minute markers?

Nice watch! Mine is waiting for me right now and I can't wait to pick mine up once I get back to the states in a few months.

My Amber Sand doesn't have makers either so I just eye-balled it. Though I suppose you could set it at the top of the hour, or at a 15/30/45 minute mark.

Thank you. Setting and reading time are a bit tricky, as you would have to eye-ball. But that’s fine, you get use to it! 😃

I found a great condition Mad Red Pioneer online and it arrived today.
Dial is amazing
Pictured here next to my Heritage on the Moser Kudu strap.

I have requested the Pioneer Retrograde Seconds. Will see what happens.

I went back to Mayors to get that one that was on display when you picked up the Purple Haze. Unfortunately, some one purchased the Mad Red and it is now a discontinued model, so off to the trusted sellers.
The watch was new June 2024 full set and in perfect condition for now!

Was not sure about the rubber strap, but it is very comfortable.
