Shouldn't be a problem

I was in Barcelona last week with my wife and I was surprised at the number of tourists wearing Rolexes. I was wearing an aquatimer and started missing my Expy. Wearing expensive watches isn't really a problem there. Just be careful about pickpockets and bagsnatchers, though. I even witnessed a couple being robbed of a small backpack while they were eating in a tapas bar. The thief didn't get lucky, as a cop ran after him and caught him even before the couple noticed the snatch. Locals told us that mugging isn't a habit in Barcelona: tourists who aren't careful almost give their stuff away.
Have good stay, it's a cool city with two Rolex AD's on Passeig de Gracia.

I wore mine with no worries. Was in Barcelona for six days, used the subway and everything in between. Just be aware of your surroundings.

Was in Barcelona last month, lots of pick pockets. Had a guy try twice to grab my wallet out of my buttoned back pocket. Even was going to go for a third after i made it clear that would fight. If any strangers, of any age, get close to you, like touching, assume it is bad and get them away.

I live in Spain and have done for 8 years now Barcelona has one of the highest robbery and pick pocketing rates in Spain.

Obviousley the choice is yours but why even take the chance.

Where I live on the costa del sol many people wear high end watches but theft and robbery isn't the real problem. here we have money laundering and drug lords so your watch is safe but but you might get shot

Here's a solution don't take it and by a knock off one the same as yours. Which you will be offered within 30 mins of your arrival

As for the city absolutely beautiful enjoy

I live in Barcelona. I can tell you that you're perfectly fine, BUT be a little more careful on Las Ramblas and if you take the metro (subway).

Robbie
You say that when you live in Fuengirola ? Would you walk around with a real Rolex on your saturday's robbers -pickpocketing-flrrmarket they have there ??
The Estepona to Benalmadena area is refuge to all the wanted Brits . Go into any small British bar or pub out of the holiday season and you can add up 100 years of jail time with the couple of customers present .

True that Marbella and Puerto Banus is safer for that as there is a serious police presence in the main shopping and tourist areas .
It was true that up till 5 years ago the place was safe because the drug , porn , gun traffic and money launderers lords didn't want any of that crap on their doorstep . Since ,many of the top dogs have been arrested and most others decided to leave before they did .( Cyprus & Malta is popular for that nowadays) This means that their little armies are left behind without any structure nor control and try to "make a living" any way they can . That has made the place more dangerous for the tourist then before .
Add to that the disastrous economy in the construction and tourist business in general .

North America, Europe (even Eastern Europe) I can answer. What I'd like to know is whether or not my wife should wear her Rolex in Thailand. She has a pretty flashy one.

I don't want to start a new thread, cause I think most that answer this thread would have an answer for me also.

Thank you

As with everything what kind of areas will you be in, what time of the day/night, how will you travel ie. Hire car, foot bus, taxi etc...

A flashy Rolex may fly under the radar better in Thailand, where we know there is a proliferation of fakes, in that people may assume a flashy Rolex on open display to be a fake.

I don't think so.

Just tried to steal a watch in the rambla, it's in the news.

In all seriousness, while pickpocketing is a problem throughout Europe and especially in the southern countries, violent crime is very rare (compared to the us). Use common sense and you'll be fine, like someone else already said, el paso is much more dangerous....
El Paso is actually statistically a safe place. I don't know about watch stealing, but pickpockets and purse stealing is out of control in Spain. My wife had her purse stolen and while at the police station we ran into an Englishwoman who had her purse stolen twice in one week there.
