I feel this way about the EXP2.

According to Rolex, the point of the timepiece is to read and decipher AM or PM in pitch black.

That’s a proper bezel ✌🏻(Rolex shall learn)

I won’t call the bezel from the Rolex GMT useless but just plain and no ideal as a tool watch ... well, Rolex don’t produce tool watches anymore ... anyway

Cause of the resell value and (artificial shortage) I think that’s the reason

You're obviously new around here, or you haven't been paying attention, because the GMTs have been highly-respected for many decades before the current flipping-insanity started and turned what was a fun hobby into a epic frenzy of speculators who only care about turning a profit and nothing at all about the brand and its illustrious history.

I’m lucky I can use two time zones, forget about the bezel and three.

We should keep in mind that the GMT Master was designed for and with the input from Pan Am pilots. They were either in cockpits of jumbo jets or in hotel rooms between flights. If they found themselves in a cockpit in total darkness, things had gone terribly wrong and the time back home (the designed use of the 24-hour hand and bezel) was not a major concern. :)

I thought I'd want the illuminated bezel, but after giving it some more thought I believe it's superfluous. I only need local time in the dark and the illumination of the hands and dial are enough. I keep the 24-hour hand set on GMT time so calculating other timezones is not exactly differential calculus. The rotating bezel was really just a convenience so users could see another timezone at a glance. I've begun to think the Explorer II's fixed bezel is a better solution. It's too easy to bump the bezel on the GMT Master and change the timezone. Best to just keep GMT time and do the math.

well, it's not as though the exact same markings aren't there in broad daylight...

Not sure what you mean?

I was thinking about how it would look a night, glowing dimly, 600mm from my face, at an angle of about 15 degrees?

I wouldn't say it's "useless''.

I might however, say "The GMT might be more useful if the bezel markers were luminous''.
