It’s taken a very very long time but I finally completed the set. I also picked up my white whale a WLW.

No pic, but I managed to score both a Weller 12 yo and a Stagg Jr batch 12 on Friday. So Merry Xmas to me!

Well lots of drinking with family and encouragement led to my uncle making me pick up this bad boy for Xmas eve shenanigans!

Gonna settle with EHT Single Barrel today. Not particularly hard to find around here, but good stuff.

It’s been a while since I’ve had any yamzaki 12. Found a few bottles just in time for the holidays.

I have a question for the more bourbon-educated. I prefer scotch (speysides/highlands) but I have taken to certain bourbons over the past couple years. It started with Buffalo Trace, then I found a local supplier of Weller (the basic green label stuff) in Central Montana of all places, and I really love the Weller. I've tried to find different wheated bourbons but don't care much for Makers. The problem now is that it appears the Weller well may have dried up, so I need to find a good alternative.

What else should I be looking for? There's one good liquor store here in town and they have a decent selection of Bourbons but I don't really know enough about them to have a good starting point. For now I am sticking with the Buffalo Trace, but maybe I'm missing out on something better?

Got it. I grabbed the confiscated. I like it quite a bit. Not as much punch as maybe I'd have hoped but has a great smell and taste.

Just did a blind test with this and Col. Taylor small batch and the confiscated won.

I'm also a fan of wheated Bourbon. Few others to try that are readily available, at least in my area. Rebel Yell, Rebel Yell 10 year, Larceny, and maybe try the Maker's 46.

The store in question has Larceny and Makers 46. I'll see if Rebel Yell is available.

Any preference among them?

In addition to what has been suggested, you might want to try Maker's Cask Strength. It usually costs a bit more than the 46, but I think it's worth it. You get the heat from the higher alcohol content, but also that nice sweetness from the wheat.

If you like “wheaters” and are lucky enough to find these at anything close to their MSRP, try the following:

Weller Special Reserve (cheapest and easiest to find at or near MsRP)
Old Weller Antique 107
Weller 12 year
Old Fitzgerald Bottled in Bond series
1792 Sweet Wheat

If you really like WSR its very accessible in the secondary market around 25-30 per 750. I like w12 myself.

I just picked up a 2nd bottle of Confiscated. It's good juice but slightly overpriced for what it is, I think. The numbered batches (1-9, up to this point) are what The Dak was referencing. I've only found Batch 8 so far, as 1-7 weren't released in my state and immediately went crazy on secondary. Confiscated is sitting on shelves everywhere, mostly because the price scares people away. But like I said, I enjoy it (for <$100 a bottle).

The KO Rye batches are also very good. KO gets a lot of hate from people because of their prices, but honestly, Dixon knows what he's doing when it comes to blending. The Scots have been doing it for years, I don't see why Bourbons can't, too...

Just found a Yamazaki 12, as well! Might crack it for New Years.

Cheers!
