That was a mess. Hamilton must be screaming at his TV somewhere.

I think the denial to accept that Lewis is better(what ever that means to a person) than another driver is not rational I think. This amazing vehicle is not driving itself.

Next generation should be interesting but F1 is always going to produce a champion from a combination of three things, a great team that builds a great car that puts a great driver in it. You take one of those things out and you won’t net a champion or constructors title.
I agree with you, I’m not a huge Hamilton fan either. But he always gives a great deal of credit to his team, recognizes them and doesn’t accept all the credit offered him for his success. It’s very worth remembering exactly what he says, it’s a team sport, he is one part, the most visible and has the most responsibility, but one piece in a very large pie, with many moving parts and things that can go wrong.

If it really is the car that makes the difference, the one person who should be the most, by a million miles, upset about that is Bottas. He’s on the same team, same engine, same everything, and he’s really not competitive with Hamilton. What is Merc doing to Lewis’s car they are not doing to Bottas’s?

WOW Mercedes, did the management intelligence also get covid with Lewis. Unbelievable and poor Botas, it’s like the team works against him.
Completely fubar’d both their drivers.
Oh, and go Perez.

Even the commentators said it on two occasions during today’s race, it’s not just the car. They admit that the MB is the best car but it needs a great driver, which they pointed straight at Russell’s driving today.
The best car is supposed to win, that’s the point, building the best car to win, then put a great driver in it.
But seriously, we need to start a go fund me or something to provide a shaman, a witch doctor, and a voodoo priest to break Valtteri’s curse at this point, I’m convinced there’s something paranormal going on.
(An honorable mention to Max who was ko'd by Leclerc, was hoping to see Max bring it).
Amazing race Perez, love an underdog success story.

Cause announcers are never guilty of hyperbole or kissing the ass of a Champion. Did you expect them to say the 0 pt bottom feeding Williams driver (because of the car) who should have won his first race in same car Lewis won his championship was a fluke? Not gonna bite the hand that feeds IMO.

Next week put Vandoorne in for the iPso facto win.

It is the car, I thought today proved it but we are all entitled to our opinion.

I don't see how that is really relevant to the point I was making. All I'm saying is Senna only won championships in the best car and nobody would ever claim he was only successful because of his car. Lewis has won 3 championships in cars that could be considered only second best or at best equally matched to the competition. 2008, 2017 and 2018.

He's rated highly enough to get that drive today and to be a favorite for the seat in 2022.

I’m entitled to my opinion too! Lance Stroll and Grosjean are better than Senna, Schumacher, and Hamilton.

Reason no one says that is because he wasn’t!

I give Lewis credit for Championship with McLaren but when Bottas could have won multiple w/o Lewis at Mercedes and Nico did only further serves to prove my point. Just sayin.

As to Russell he is managed by Toto Wolf.

The Official Formula One Thread!

Kudo’s to Perez and Racing Point for both drivers on podium.

Toto doesn’t mange Russell in contract terms but is the key to his future - yet, he may rue some words from earlier this Summer...

“I’m confident that we have the strongest driver pairing in F1 today. And signing Valtteri is an important step in retaining this strength for the future. I’m looking forward to seeing him continue to raise the bar together with us this year and in 2021.”

Russell’s performance was stellar today but Williams has a 3rd year on his contract. A pairing with Lewis might look like the best year of racing with Nico. It would take some shifting of duties.

Now that Claire and the family have sold Williams, maybe George could wriggle free and relegate Bottas to another role (I don’t know if Bottas’ contract guarantees the #2 seat).

Shifting gears: I hope Perez gets a deal over the next week or so - testing is around the corner, figuratively speaking. He has outshone Daddy’s boy in every category.

It was embarrassing for Racing Point when Lance gave the post-race live interview in Sky Sports in his underwear......clearly clueless about sponsors. Even our amateurs know to zip up for TV to show the colors and the sponsors.

I think Perez or Russell could very easily take Albons seat. I can’t see him staying after this year.

What a rollercoaster. Bottas’ bad luck overflowed to Russell today. Unbelievable.
They should send Bottas back to Williams.
But time and experience are good for George, and if he has the talent, I’m not sure Lewis wants someone who can challenge him.
Favorite quote was from the talking heads again, this time about how Mercedes is unstoppable when in the clear air in front, but isn’t very good at passing. Immediately followed by Russell carving up the grid twice like a Christmas turkey. They should just say Bottas is crap and can’t pass. Didn’t Lewis go from around last to a podium a couple times in the last couple years?

Perez is the best choice since he’s uncontracted. He has also been publicly quoted as saying RB is his best option for 2021.

Russell has another year at Williams. But if Red Bull became a M-B engine customer, who know?

Just to stir the chilipot, Lewis hasn’t signed anything for 2021. He stated many times he’s “just getting started” and wants to stay with M-B.

George was robbed twice but should be proud as he was absolutely epic and a faultless drive with all that pressure.

Think that display will knock a few million $ off Lewis's new contract.

It was, yes Bottas was on worn tires, but in no way was he giving up the place. And it had to be clean, god forbid taking out your teammate.

So the investigation into the Russell pit stop snafu got more interesting.

A fine of €20,000 imposed on the team. One interesting finding...Russell himself made a radio transmission entering pit lane that stepped on the race engineer’s radio call that #63 was coming in first. Bottas’ tires had been staged when a hasty last minute double-stack decision was made.

Not really his fault - one of training in a team radio protocol. But both drivers suffered due to it.

Nice race, Perez did a great job.

Russell is the real winner imho. What a hungry driver. Top performance.

Guess the contract negotiations between Hamilton and MB are easy now.
They surely don’t need him anymore.

Best if Hamilton retires anyway so he can focus on law suits and whatever else rocks his boat

Astonishing radio communication from Russell. That he could race like that yet not know where all the controls were.
