I love the 12. Haven’t tried the 12 cask strength but I have heard good things about it.
On a side note, I just opened RB Lustau edition. It’s not bad per se but I don’t like it. Would not buy again.
Peace!

Thank you gentlemen! I will pick up a bottle of RB 12 soon (among other things)

I like the 12 Cask Strength better than the 12 or 15.

I also have the Lustau, 16, and two 21's.

I might put the 12 Cask Strength right behind the 21 as my next favorite Red Breast. Get you one!

My local joint has several bottles of the Kentucky Owl Batch 9 ($324) right now.

A lot of the Buffalo trace stuff (even base Buffalo Trace) is now allocation at the places immediately surrounding me.
I got my KO Batch 9 for about $280, but I"m seeing them well over $500 online. I would easily pay $350 for it, though, it is a great bottle, with an amazing finish.

The Cask Strength is great, better than the regular 12 Year, but harder to find, I think. The 15 is bleh. I haven't tried the 21 but have heard great things, just can't find it in my area. Maybe here in Europe it will be easier...?

The KO Batch 9 was my last pour before deploying earlier this year, it is now patiently waiting my return (more patiently than my wife and toddler, I must say... haha!)

The Eagle Rare 17 I posted about before, but it turns out my guys also got a case of WL Weller in and offered me one for the same price, so I had my buddy snag them both. My store also hooked him up with a WL Weller and a GTS for being my buddy and for the birth of his daughter. Needless to say, I’ve now got some great booze waiting for me at home!

Just cracked and OF 1910 and have to say I quite like it. Very rich tasting almost a dessert pour.

I have - it's terrific. Better than the 1910 (which is also good) - it's one of the best bourbons I've had in the past year. Even at $60 or so a bottle, I think it punches above its weight. Not always readily available around here unfortunately.

19 WLW is fire!

However, 09 WLW is one of the best whiskeys i've ever had!

I just picked up a RB12 cask strength based on the feedback from this thread. Paid $92 for it which appears to be a decent price.

I have one open and honestly it wasn’t my favorite hence me ignoring 1910 initially. I know it’s well regarded but palates are weird like that.

There seem to be a lot of Whiskey aficionados on this site. I am still a bit of a rookie with Whisky, especially Scotch. Any site/youtube recommendations to get up to speed? Thanks!

For sure. I can’t say for certain but I feel as though as I develop my palate more I will like more high proof offerings. Honestly I’m still super green to this world compared to watches and I’m guessing tastes will change.

Cheers

It’s a crazy journey, but you will quickly learn what you like and don’t like. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Always down to chat bourbon!! (And watches of course)

I'd start out with some good value bottles (30-60€ range), but not too many, maybe 3 bottles but all vastly different in terms of taste.

Then get a nosing/tasting glass like the Glencairn or something similar, doesn't have to be expensive.

Maybe a good Bourbon, a Highland Scotch and a peaty/smoky Scotch from Islay or Skye.
