I think 10% would be pushing it too. BUT 5% is only saving $300 and if someone bought it here... they typically sell a filled out warranty card. I'd rather pay full price and have the warranty card in my name. $300 savings is not enough to justify losing out on the warranty.
I'd say 8% should be an easy goal if they have the watch in stock.

I'll be honest, I paid $3,200 for my 16610 in 1995. I see them going for $4,500-$4,900 Mine is mint! BTW, it's *not* for sale.

Well, I guess one will never know what the future will hold, and we can debate the price fluctuation for ever and ever...

Here are two examples. In 1971, a Daytona in Sweden would take you back 1.275 SEK = $175 , The GMT 1.255 SEK = $172

We all know what today's prices are. (yes and I know, inflation etc...which by the way is 444% between Jan. 1971 to Jan. 2010 - in the US that is)

Cheers,
Joe

...sure would love one with the 3186 in it!

regrading the 16610 and the LV. there will always be an affinity for these subs and there won't be any shortages for one to desire one. me thinks that there will indeed be a pop in pricing with the advantage going to any of the lv series

I've said it before, I'll say it again. That is one of the BEST prices ever for a brand new 16610.........almost too good to be true.

And I can imagine how much more savings would be available, if the buyer took the watch out of your country, picked it up at Customs, TAX FREE and got his 17% (?) VAT back??!!

Don't try this in Canada; they don't give the VAT back anymore.

Well, that guy scooba is in the UK. I'm pretty sure they still have the system of recovering your VAT at the airport.

Why has Canada stopped this.........and what purpose does VAT serve to a foreigner visiting your country on a holiday and shopping spree?

Production volumes were -MUCH- lower back then. Most agree that watches from recent decades aren't likely to have the wild jumps in value that the old ones have enjoyed.

What would you say if you had a chance to buy it here on the TRF with the time piece BNIB, dropped shipped from the AD with the warranty card stamped, filled out in your name and dated with a savings of $1500 plus?

It does me the visitor no good but it pays for Canada's socialized medicine. The sad thing is if I get hurt in Canada I'm not covered and my private insurance will not cover me out of the US of A.

I'm wondering since the Z series sub is the last of the 16610 models which has desirable upgrades such as the solid end links, and the no holes case design but without the rolexrolexrolex rehaute (which some people find distracting), might give it an edge over the more recent editions in terms of collectability. That's my hope anyway.

My 2c Buy the 16610 if you want it and like it. Collectability . So many years of production and subtle variations that the collector community will ultimatly decide what if any 16610 is collectable. Right now think of it as a great watch and buy and wear one in good health.

Just asked some ADs in Hong Kong and most of them still have stock of the 16610. Again, they should be pleased to offer 8% discount as for the other models. Grey dealers some put up their prices a bit and you can get one easily at HKD50,000 (apprximately USD5,000). However, I heard that brand new 14060s are disappearing quick. May be, it is not a hot seller in Hong Kong anyway.

Don't want to be one of "those people" (what ever that means? )
But HKD50,000 is more like $6400

Grey dealer for 50,000hkd? Now that is too much imho!
You can easily get it at 40,940hkd or approximately 5,200usd at any Roled AD in HK.

"Cheap Rolex"

Hearing these prices I'm getting a little worried...I bought a D in 3/06 for $4200 including tax from an AD. Now I know the 16610's have gone up in price since then but mine retailed for $4895 before tax I believe which is like a 20% discount...hoping the watch is real...Got it from a reputable place though.

Hi buddy,

It's funny you should be asking this question after owning the watch for 4 long years.

If you've purchased it from a Rolex AD, you have nothing to worry about. However, if you wish to post some nice close-up pics of the watch, maybe we can help.

Cheers - JJ
