I really like Dainite. The soles are comfortable and seem to be long lasting. I also like the looks.

If you really want leather, inquire about the double leather JR soles.

I think it's dainite time. Plus I'll be able to wear them in bad weather and not worry too much.

Rain, leather soles, and pavement do not work well together.

More worried about my 4 others pairs from AE that will most likely need recrafting within the next year or so.

I have noticed that a lot of Americans on this thread seem to lace their shoes this way.

That is the grade school standard here. Few people upgrade when they grow older. The US Army trained me to lace them that way as well. It seems to be the "American way".

Now I wear Gucci loafers with vibram soles almost exclusively. Great comfort and looks.

I quite like it, I will give it a try, I have some nice Cheaney boots that I think it will look great applied too. I normally lace them straight across and so that nothing is shown underneath above the tongue.

I know these aren't dress shoes but I don't intend to work in these but rather treat them like dress shoes. I just picked up the Red Wing Iron Ranger. I'm so excited and I couldn't help but share.

For most these tend to be their first pair of GYW shoes or boots. Notoriously hard to break in so take it easy. Congrats!!

I sent a pair of C&J's back to replace the leather sole with a Dainite sole and heel, while they were at it I asked them to strip the shoes of the polish that I had built up and take them down to their original colour. I'm really chuffed, mind, it did take 8 weeks. I must admit that the photos don't do them justice (before or after shots).

I really like Dainite. I actually prefer it to leather soles. I have worn my new C&J cordovan PTBs only 3 times and I already feel like their broken in because of the soles.

The boot trees are from Red Wing. They were actually the most expensive trees I've ever gotten. My dad was shocked and had a really hard time guessing the price. The Red Wing store owner says that I was the first person that he's ever sold boot trees to.

I just thought since I've bought Allen Edmond shoe trees when I buy their shoes that I might as well correlate that to Red Wing.

Thanks Dave and I took a quick look on the US website and doesn't appear as they offer them there. It was a quick look so I could have missed them. However even if they do I would say Red Wing probably doesn't make them, just as most other shoemakers don't actually make their shoe trees.

I was just a bit surprised to see boot trees as this is a bit rare, heck shoemakers which charge many times more no longer sell boot trees. Some used too but they no longer do.

Ah I see. To me it only made sense to have them. I've seen a lot of picture of these things getting aged and worn. I mean I don't mind the aging of the color, but I would still like to keep the creasing to minimal. It might be sacrilegious to do so because these are work boots. To each his own. Cheers!

Using shoe trees not only help to maintain a shoe or boots shape they do also help to keep them fresh as well. How much moisture they help to remove is debatable but they do help keep them smelling fresh. Anyway I use shoe trees on all my leather shoes to include everything from Red Wing boots to my more expensive dress shoes and boots.

Those are very nice. How long did you own these before sending them back? Do we have to request for the polish to be stripped all the time, or is that just something they always do even when not requested?

I use them in all my leather low tops, including boat shoes.
