Closing is expected some time in March but the date hasn't been set yet. They are taking lots of time mulling over the survey results and the reports from the engineers and architects. Since a portion of the land lies in a flood zone they want to be sure that matter is addressed. The entire congregation will make their final decision by vote on Feb. 24 or 25. I sure hope it will be "all systems go."

Ok so it's still on. That's good. I'm sure they'll love it and all vote Yes.

Don't think I've ever posted pics of the place. Five acres. It's where I lived from age 4 until I left home after college. We kept our horses in that little shed.
View from the street: Views from where the orchard used to be. We had cherry, apple, pear, peach, almond and apricot trees. Two of the pear trees are still alive and still producing fruit. The cellar is full of water and canning jars that are still full of tomatoes, pears and peaches. I wouldn't eat them at this point, though! View looking northwest. Condominiums to the west, offices and homes to the north. Used to be cattle pasture and wheat fields. This used to be fenced and was a nice area for the horses to graze and roam around. The creek runs through that low area. |

It was, Art. It's kind of sad now... the house empty and slowly starting to get overgrown, and the shed and barn falling apart. When the house is torn down I don't know if I'll be able to drive by again for a long time.

I'll bet it is sad, and I don't blame you. It would be tough for me as well. I know for me I would have to avoid driving by.

That's my dream yard - except for the condos and businesses nearby. I suppose a fence could remedy that. Seriously what a place.

Lisa, your childhood home looks like it was a fun place for you and your siblings to grow up during your 'formative years'.....I have forgotten if you mentioned previously but how far out of the nearest town or city were you living then? Did you have close neighbors and friends or did you have to drive to get everywhere?
Take it easy.....Leo

Oh, I forgot but last nite we had a small group(11 of us) for dinner and had lots of fun. One of our neighbors brought a few bottles of wine so everyone had a couple of paper cups except me. And for dessert they had Cheesecake and Brownies on a stick...like ice cream bars.....I did take some pictures and will post them Sunday or Monday when I have a chance as today and tomorrow I am at a coin show!!!
Take it easy.....Leo

I must agree with you and it is a bit sad that we always get further from nature. At some point you understand that a part of it is necessary but when I go to my friend's cottage I am really glad to be able to enjoy a natural lake, the forest, a good fire at night and, of course, the fresh air.

I grew up playing in the woods. From my back yard I could walk to the next town through the woods or ride my dirt bike for hours and miles and miles without ever traveling the same trails. Good stuff.
Conversely where my mother lives is nearly an hour from anything resembling a city. On a recent visit my son asked "Why would anyone want to live out here? There's nothing to do." Of course he's right. Sort of. While there is a lake, there's no neighborhoods to speak of. Kids can't walk to each others houses or ride their bikes to a park. It would be a lonely place to be a kid there. It's all based on perspective. My son likes the city. My wife likes the ocean. I like the woods and mountains.

Found this walking stick for sale on one of my favorite antiques web sites. My daughter and I laughed til we cried. The description says it's got real teeth.
Maybe I just need to go to bed. http://www.rubylane.com/item/632886-...Cane-Americana |

This area is way expensive for horses. Horse vets make the big bucks. The kid says that you can't take these to a regular small animal vet because of their structure and unique health issues, like colic and leg injuries possibly being fatal, and all of that. But dammit, they're so CUTE!

Mini horses - I hear you, Mikki. And they're expensive to start with.
But the subject did spark some interesting dialogue with hubby yesterday. He's historically been uninterested in living outside of the suburbs. He doesn't much care for yard work, gardening, or spending time outside. However, when I mentioned that he could use an old barn or outbuilding for his flight simulator hobby ("You could even bring in an entire plane fuselage!") he perked up. Ha - the wheels in his head are turning. |
