i don't mean to take sides here but the first post here was on 15 July and that's barely a month ago. another poster said USPS needs 21 days before filing a claim.

in another thread, the buyer's friend posted "The watch has "officially" been lost, and the claim has been filed. I believe it's been a couple months now..." which does not seem quite correct.

so we should all restrain ourselves from judging who's at fault here and prescribe punishment. i know it must be a stressful situation more so for the buyer who has paid but presumably got nothing. but i can't blame the seller until he gets 100% confirmation from USPS that the item was never delivered and that the insurance claim is allowed.

what if the money was refunded and USPS shows proof of delivery??

Couldn't disagree more with you. Any stand up normal seller refunds money when a watch is lost. They don't hold the buyer hostage let alone duck him and not answer calls or return messages. This is on the seller and he needs to resolve it ASAP by refunding the buyer back his cash.
At the end of the day- can't say how many times you hear it from experienced members- BUY THE SELLER - DEAL WITH TRUSTED SELLERS. I can't understand for the life of me why anyone would buy from someone with no feedback and virtually brand new!! Let this be a lesson to you all- pay attention. Hopefully it works out for you David. Keep calling him and hold him accountable and let us know end result. Best-- Ken

Disgraceful! Posting to ask for sympathy and now pulling this disappearing act.

I'm glad there are so many more good guys on this forum that advise Buy The Seller!

A very difficult situation

Hope it all works out accordingly--- another reason I have a hard time shipping expensive items, I understand that not everyone can fly in to pick up merchandise face-to-face but it may be the best way.
Good luck gentlemen,

If I read right and seller only insured it for $200 (?) and when it didn't arrive starts avoiding the buyer, it isn't looking good. Buyer should begin recovery phase of getting back money paid.

Exercise all your legal options now.

Smells like a day old fish taco, indeed. I think the situation would be much different had the seller kept the lines of communication open. His disapperance act is telling...

I always hate to see this happen. For those reading this thread that were considering buying from a TRUSTED seller here.. know that I successfully completed a transaction for my 16613 without a hitch [beyond registered mail taking FOREVER].

I did purchase from a newer seller though, but he already had some feedback on the who's who. Just want to remind everyone that most deals on here go quite smoothly! :)

I hope this gets resolved in spite of my gut feeling on the matter.

As addled as he is when it comes to NFL teams (), Ken is absolutely right here. Couldn't have more neatly summed this all up and given better advice if you put a gun to my head.

How is a new forum member supposed to sell his or her watches online then? Ebay?

It sounds very much like selling watches on TRF is a closed shop, reserved for a handfull of semi professional "trusted sellers", which is disappointing.

Anyone who buys from a new member with no feedback takes a risk...One which I would never take myself. No different than buying on EBay from an unknown seller. Risky and foolish IMHO.

Yes, but how will a new forum member get feedback if nobody will do business with them?

you'v got to try and cut your teeth somehow. Perhaps you buy a few watches and get good buy side feedback.... think of it as a new salesperson trying to break into a territory, you've got work to do. If i could source the watches that the Power Sellers here can, I'd figure out a way to start selling 'em

Try doing what most have done here. Be a productive member...Get to know people...And do your first deal. If people sign up here to sell right away as new member- better off just going to EBay. Again- I would never buy off a new member or anyone without proven reputation and anyone who does takes a big chance. If you want to take a different approach-- have at it. Not my problem!

Buyer definitely needs to get his money back if goods were never delivered. No question about it.

However, all we're hearing is what a 3rd party is saying. This matter started just about a month ago but in another thread, it was said to be "a couple of months" and that to me doesn't sound quite right.

I'm saying we shouldn't prescribe punishment until the seller clears up the issue. If he remains silent, then we will know which one is the real snake.

Heck, I nearly bought a watch from this seller myself.

I am not looking to sell any of my collection, nor did I sign up here to buy. It just seems a shame that so many nice watches are sitting unsold on TRF because their sellers are not considered "trusted sellers".

Am with Ken here. You have to do your research first before you hand your money. There are those who joins just so they can sell. For me, 16 days and 16 post is not enough for someone to have the privilege to sell here. If I make the rules I will increase that to 3 months and 100 posts and require the sellers to post a bond or something that will cover a buyer if something goes wrong. Maybe this will level the playing field.

Just my humble opinion.

I agree but at the same time I would solve this problem with selling locally, if I had to sell something.

But it shouldn't be a select few "trusted sellers". Make regional events happen.

Thank you. We all have to look out for each other and do the right thing. Period.

I don't take people who do these kinds of things lightly. I appreciate the sense of honor MOST everyone shows around here. It's sacred in my opinion.

Daniel's original request for widdler1977' s references

http://www.rolexforums.com/showthrea...ht=widdler1977

It appeared that Daniel jumped in head first after missing out on a deal over the TZ.

The seller as Razo pointed out that he hasn't been posting sice July 17th, but has regularly logged on to TZ, so he's not DEAD. Daniel should contact your local PD, and his PD to file a report. Don't give up until you recover your fund.

We are not here to facilitate sales between buyers and sellers. This is a forum that has a sales section. When a buyer deals with someone - no different than any other Internet site- he assumes all risk. If dealing with someone with feedback and reputation helps mitigate some of that risk- great. If someone ones to take shot on new person with no feedback- great. It is on them and they are increasing risk of something going wrong. There is a reason EBay lists people's feedback and people have level of comfort dealing with people with strong feedback. That is life on the internet and people have choices to make. Enough of this topic...Back on topic to Daniel and his watch deal gone bad! Have a great Sunday all!

Would hand over $5k plus to someone who doesn't any kind of reputation as a member? I know I wouldn't

The problem with feedback is that unless you are a frequent seller , you are not going to have a lot. I am on eBay as I buy things. Although I have 80+ replies on my feed back only 9 have been thru sales. All have gone well except one who refused to document her claim ( eBay ruled in my favor ). However, there are things you can do for due diligence . Google the street address on maps/street view to insure it is a house. Reverse check the phone number and street address for the owner. Check the local tax assessor on the web to confirm the owner of the house. Check them out on who's who on TRF. all this can be done privately by the buyer and the seller to give them more assurance. But to me most of all buy from a trusted seller here on TRF.

Doesn't it go without saying that an individual offering for sale an object at thousands of dollars in value had better be prepared to provide credentials? If not selling in watch forums, then selling elsewhere. If not selling anywhere online, then other ways to document you're not a person who's taking the money and running. This seems pretty elemental for online transactions.

Sorry that this is straying off topic. It seems that the buyer appears not to have waited for feedback on the seller but went ahead. I expect that this is a big lesson here.
