Here is what one one watch expert came back to me with:

“Rolex was using this dial combination (non-rail minute outer + non-Roman numeral outer track) for a very long time in model number 18038, the single quick set generation. They continue to use this dial for a very short period in a 18238 model with double quick set, but than change the dial lay out to the rail minute + roman numeral outer track. So all that makes this combination pretty rare and highly collectable for the people who value those small details in the watch.”

I take the last part with a grain of salt, but interesting to learn.

I need to stay out of this thread. I am genuinely pondering moving my AP and a couple Rolex (that I don’t really wear) to secure a DD.

2 years ago there is no chance in hell I even consider this. I blame all of you.

Actually almost… I’m missing a GMT, don’t really mind which, but that’s the only gap.

Oh man I get it now. This is the lowest key DD I could find and I love how the numerals melt into the dial when it’s dark. Thanks for the push.

Very nice, congrats! Curious which Daytona you traded towards the 118206 and how much leverage gave you the inflated prices of them versus the platinum DD

Smart move!

You capitalized over the hyped Daytona, which is a chuck of 904L SS and move into a solid platinum watch plus $3K
