The dramatic speed gain in changing an engine gave me that same thought as the illegal Ferrari engine of 2019 when SKY said that HAM's speed advantage on the straight with DRS was 27 kph!! There's definitely something amiss and no way RB will survive with such a straight line deficit for the next 3 races.
Sounds like Mercedes hasn't given the new engine memo to Bottas either as he thought they should hold track position for an easy 1-2 finish but when you have that much power, it won't matter. |

What an unbelievable drive from Hamilton. If he has this same raw power Verstappen won't even be able to stay close to him at the three Middle Eastern power tracks.

And before anyone jumps me here, look at the past races. MB and Red Bull have been 15-30 seconds or MORE ahead of the rest of the field at nearly every recent race. That pace advantage shows that the mid and back field contenders aren’t even close. So, going P20 to P5 Saturday was not shocking by any means. I probably didn’t state it as clearly as I could have.
I didn’t mean a DNF as in Sochi. I mean a repeat of what we saw this weekend. I don’t think that it was as intentional to push him that wide. I think Max was DEFINITELY squeezing him out, and this is where the experience and skill differs. I think Lewis could have pulled that move off, if positions were reversed, and not pushed Max as wide. My point was that if you swap places, place Max where Lewis was and vice versa, it could easily be advantageous for Max to be pushed wide by Lewis. And my other point was that Lewis has done this multiple times too. The most egregious instances being both races with Albon in 2019. I don’t dislike Lewis. I think he’s a bit of a Prima Donna. And I dislike a lot of the off track political statements that he thrust himself into. But, I just don’t think that this weekend’s results are all that surprising. From Practice 1 on Friday it was very clear that this ICE “replacement” was markedly more powerful than what we have seen. And, again, him going P20 to P5 on Saturday is not surprising to me. In all the midst of the rocket ship Mercedes engine coupled with the DRS gate controversy followed by the "did he push him off or not" issue, there's talk of Audi having purchased the McLaren Group. This is a pretty big deal if true. Most of the motorsport publications are saying it's a done deal with a denial by McLaren, which inevitably makes it true based on past F1 protocol.
There's a lot of questions to be answered if indeed true such as why Audi and not Porsche coming into F1 under the VW umbrella? Will they engage in 2022 or in 2026 when the reg change again. With another giant manufacturer like a member of the VW Group, how will this effect smaller teams and virtual privateers like Williams (a VC Group), HAAS even with a budget cap? Who is policing the budget cap? |

Lots to unpack from last weekend…and in the windscreen ahead.
VER washes out, HAM avoids him. No further investigation necessary. Qatar - next weekend. Then Saudi & Abu Dhabi back-to-back. Some new circuit challenges remain and strategic miscalculations may develop.
