To me it’s irrelevant if he wears an outfit that looks questionable or says something that people can mock him for. His record on the track speaks for itself and as he’s always said, he does his talking on the track.

Why do I feel that I was in a thread about F1 but then it shifted to a soap opera like “All My Children”?

Like I wandered into the event horizon of a massive black hole.

Back to our regular programming…Red Bull has added wing. Methinks VER has gained new respect in FP2 for the fastest street circuit in F1 history.

Love this! I feel the same way.

This circuit is awesome. I am really excited to see what qualifying and the race are gonna show us.

I do think the Lewis thought it was in the bag this year based on past years experiences.

I think Max is handling the pressure wonderfully. Excited for these last two races.

The SA track looks tricky and should have some suspense. Some of the corners are crazy with the curbs. Someone is going to get launched into one of the corners for sure.

Agreed.

I expect that there will be at least one significant tussle with the wall during the race.

Leclerc found that out today.

I think this morning’s F2 race will be a preview of how this track races versus Practice or Qually. It goes off in about an hour from now. We’ll see…

Of course, less HP, Aero and grip in F2 but also more “drive to survive” motivation to impress the F1 team bosses who might be looking for another reserve driver or sim driver.

If you tune into your country’s streaming partner (ESPN3 here in USA) you might be delighted to see the first formula race on this new track.

The Official Formula One Thread!

Well…SC already on F2 G/F lap.

Inauspicious foreboding for F1 Sunday race.

And lunging at T4 isn’t worth the risks.

Fast narrow track with no room for error. Aero wash when following (or not - see LeClerc). I see 2-3 safety car periods during Sunday's race.

Interesting qual. Tomorrow the safety car could play a big role.

Too bad for Max, that was quite the lap! I'm thinking there will be some gearbox damage

crashstappen is back.

That's a serious choke, only had to get it round the last corner.

If only you were there. You could have radioed him, “ just get it around the corner”.

The Official Formula One Thread!

Oops…the Porsche Sprint Challenge Race that ran just before F2, Race3 resulted in a necessary big track repair that involves replacing the track walls. Including the concrete barriers out and around the banked turn 13.

Don’t think it will affect the F1 race but the promoter is struggling with repairs since they have no experience repairing/replacing the barriers. Masi may need to re-certify circuit safety - he’s out on foot inspecting their work now.

Teething pains…

Edit: and the F2 race red flagged on 1st lap. Standing Start collision with serious concerns for the involved drivers…

P3 on the grid stalled, Theo POURCHAIRE, was hit from behind at full-throttle by P18, Enzo FITTIPALDI who was unsighted.

This will affect the F1 race schedule because the track is full of fluids that are hard to fix quickly on front straight. Masi’s on foot directing the surface oil-dry being scrubbed away.

I’m pretty sure everyone on the whole team was literally on the radio saying “just one more corner, push” and he did……understeered from the lock up then pushed the skinny pedal oversteering into the wall.
I really don’t like MV but giyatdamn the kid can drive. He is an absolute monster. Don’t know if it’s the editing but they show Max going thru that track on rails, he’s damn near sparking through the whole track. Must be from his foot punching through the floor board.
But alas, no matter how fast, today he wasn’t the fastest, it was another master level stroke by MB and Sir Lewis. This year is showing one thing for sure, it isn’t just the car, because Lewis is in beast mode and it took the youngin MV to light the fire. And you can see the driving skills in Max who’s wringing a championship out of the RB.

When it’s all said and done Lewis is turning out to be the greatest F1 driver period, many won’t agree, but the stats speak for themselves, similar to Tom Brady in another universe.
And MV will rise in Lewis’ wake to dominate the field, that is unless he doesn’t mature and remains a hot headed wreckless teenager. You can only be successful in F1 if you can bring the car home in one piece in the front row more times than not.
SA is now officially my favorite track bar none. Go Lewis, go 4+4=8

The Official Formula One Thread!

For VER:

Replaced parts in parc ferme car 33:
Front wing/nose assembly RHS rear trackrod
RHS rear top wishbone
RHS rear lower wishbone RHS rear upright assembly LHS front upright gaitor PAS rack
Rear brake friction material
Parameter changes associated with RHS rear corner replacement Parameter changes associated with brake friction material replacement

A call to a strategist (not for RB or MB) was intriguing. I wondered out loud why not take a 5 spot penalty and replace gearbox. Was asked “why? It only needs to last until contact with P1 in T1”…

So all of our TRF commenters may have been right when they said VER would take out HAM if he could reach him. BOT will have a key role covering off VER through first few turns.

Thus far, each F2 race has had incidents on the starts in T1-2 complex. 30 minutes from now we shall know…

WHAT THE F is going on with the Saudi Arabian GP... they are just 'CRUISING' around the circuit... ZERO racing going on and it's already lap 7. It looks contrived to me, doing 1:33's

no one is on the curbs, no one is even within a foot of the walls... it's so apparent that they aren't even 90% pace. Perhaps blow back from the GP2 race

Lot of whining by Mercedes and Hamilton, but FP2 was red flagged when LeClerc hit the exact same wall.  Hamilton had the luck in Imola when Hamilton should not have been in the points and was lapped he was able to unlap himself and get new tires for a P2 finish.  It all equals out.

Max going for the mediums??  Perhaps for a better standing start and track position?  Gambling on another safety car or timed race?

Yes! Let’s hope the Max can keep this lead.

Edit: wow Lewis ran into the back of Max. The incident is under investigation. Hmmm, I wonder how this is going to play out…

F1 needs to penalize Max a race for many of his questionable driving tactics.

This race is a disaster. Nothing but RF, VSC’s, and SC.
