recommendations re lost bezel
I had my watch cleaned by an authorized Rolex dealer about 6 months ago. Two months ago I lost the bezel. Told the dealer who sent the watch back to Rolex in New York. Told the replacement would be $2,000.00 Seems high to me. I don't want to buy an aftermarket bezel though, or does it really matter? Suggentions welcome! Thanks.

Sorry to hear that , but tell us how did you "lose" the bezel ? Did you go 10 rounds with a heavy weight whilst wearing it ? Or do you suspect that Rolex AD did not put the bezel back on properly during service or cleaning

Well scrap gold 18kt gold at the moment is around 25$ a gram would estimate the bezel weight around 8-10 grams. So indeed a very expensive item from Rolex even if you account the work to make them.So Rolex wants to charge around 200$ a gram now that's what I call a good mark up profit.

Not sure how it came off. It's really strange that i didn't notice it until the next day when i went to put it on. I don't think the Rolex authorized watchmaker messed it up, but he did have to remove the bezel to replace the little click wire or something that keeps the bezel set so it does not just go around freely. How would I contact Rolex to see if they would help me with the replacement cost? I paid over $500.00 for the cleaning. The watch looked almost new when it came back though. I assumed they did an outstanding job. Thanks!

no drinking involved...at least this time, but I may have to have a few before I feel good about paying $2,000 for 10 grams of gold, I understand the quality of the workmanship but....

ouch
Sorry about your loss. When I started to read your note, I immediately thought "$2,000" before I got to your Rolex quote. I think you're stuck. You might find a used YM bezel, but that watch hasn't been on the market long enough to have piles of parts floating around.
If you're patient, one might show up, but you're probably going to have little choice but to bite the bullet and get the new one. Do check with Steve M., though. |

I'm sure you've done this already but have you tried looking for it? Do you remember the last time you saw it up to the time you noticed it was gone and traced back? Hopefully it's just lying around under your couch or something. I totally agree that $2K is ridiculous for a bezel. Have you tried asking other AD's on what they charge?

Thanks for the info, i love the watch and miss wearing it. Broke out the old Seiko diver, it's just not the same. BTW this site is just amazing, never saw it before. Wish i had seen it sooner, I have been a Rolex fan since I was 18 years old. Owned 5 before the YM.
