Should i ? Should i not ? Puzzled by the offer

Look , I did what I should have done a while ago .. bring in my 116520 for service and polish and I had to tell my AD that I have bought a GMTIIc in the US and hence not with him . I did try and squeeze the max out of him for one the other week and even tried to trow in the service on my 116520 , but the difference was to great and he could not ( due to EURO / USD rate ) meet the US price .

Anyway he congratulated me on what he thinks is a great deal and said that is the way things are as he has known the opposite when the USD rocketed in the early \'80.

So I hand him over my 116520 , he has a good look at it and says ... I may have an offer that might interest you .
Listen to this : He has a client that collects Daytona\'s (he has about 35 of them ) and he is after a late slim hands white dial 116520 , mine fits the bill . My AD thinks that it would be possible to get a BNIB 116520 in exchange for it or close .
He is going to make a call later this afternoon to that client and see what he says , the fact that mine is pretty worn but nothing that RSC cannot sort and the service that needs to be done ...

I said yes , but on the way back home my \"suspicious mind \" ( wife calls it paranoid at times ) started to work and I think where is the catch ? I\'m pretty sure my F-reg 417XXX thin hands white dial is not a rarity , so why would a collector want to pay that much for it ( if he does ) I just checked my original invoice of june 2004 and I paid exactly 5795 euro for it a new one is now 7295 euro .

Where is the catch , can there be one ?

Sounds like a good deal for you..

If the collector will pay about MSRP to acquire yours, then the Dealer gives you a new one, he actually has sold a new Daytona on his books.. Even if it's 10 or 15% under MSRP, he still makes a profit and has two happy customers..

Collectors pay crazy money sometimes... he probably does not have one from the year you have.. that's it.. if it is all good I would change it without even thinking about it.

As a collector of strange things, I'll tell you that sometimes a motivated collector will definitely give you the better end of the deal to complete a collection.

Considering an AD is involved, I'd do it.

Do it.....in this case its a win-win situation!

I recently got offered MSRP for my barely worn (LNIB) Daytonas, I rejected as I am loving both of them at the moment. The thought did cross my mind......wanted to exchange the black dial for an AP Royal Oak, but deciding to hold off for a lil bit!

It is legit , it\'s my own AD that would provide me the watch documents on my name . He just left a message , the collector accepts the deal as long there is nothing more then standard service and polish to be done to my watch . I have called him back and said that I would drop off the box papers and all other original goodies that it came with . Hope to come home with BNIB 116520 tomorrow .
By the rest of the replies I believe it is widely considered as a good deal . I should stop being paranoid , sometimes you get lucky I guess .
I believe in the saying ... If it seems too good to be true it usually is . This thing well ... Bingo , guess my lucky day !

Look, I\'m absolutely convinced it is a great deal , but I was just getting the box and paperwork ready and I\'m getting all sentimental . I feel like a person that is about to leave his dog tied to the tree and drive off ... .
Just give over , its a great deal .... saved 600 usd on the service as well . Can\'t wait to get my paws on the new one .
I know that my AD has 2 BNIB white dial in stock , but one has the old clasp ( 78490 ) I bet he is going to try and flog me that one .. no I want new clasp or is this getting greedy ? Nothing wrong with trying I guess .

Just Do IT! but check your watch first? there might be something interesting that we don't know yet about your watch. as we all know, very serious and moneyed collectors gets first hand information and thats one of the reason they can build amazing collections!

Definately a great deal. He has someone who really wants your model. It isn't worth any more generally, other than to someone who has an interest in that version. I would take him up on it in a heartbeat!!

Congrats if they deliver. IMO, it's a great deal for you

I'd try for the new clasp. How can it hurt? Sounds like you have the upper hand here.
