BBQ Bummer
Vernon's post about BBQing in the winter reminded me...
I had to call Weber's customer service line because of an issue with my Silver Genesis. In three places around where the 'Weber' logo is bolted on, the paint on the top of the Que had bubbled and was oxidzing. I took pix but I haven't been ar$ed to download them yet. Anyways, I call Weber, run down the story and ask if I can pay the difference to get them to send me a stainless steel cover. No dice... I'd have to buy it completely for almost $300!!!! But they did send a replacement cover. But just the center piece that's painted. I'll have to take the cover apart and install myself. It's sitting in my basement and it will for a long time... Nice to know I have a BNIB replacement cover for when it gets really bad. Overall, great customer service. Too bad the QC sucked on a $900 BBQ though. |

Well my vermont castings that I got is also SS, but the heat plates have rusted even though they were porcelain coated.
One of the bolts that holds the cover has rusted as well. I called Vermont Castings support (Majestic) and to my delight, the heat plates are warrantied for a long time. This was in May... I'm a great procastinator and I'm supposed to send them my receipt and info LOL. I'm gonna do it soon. I promise ![]() Anyway, also a great customer service from a great company.

Hey, eating them is cheaper than feeding 'em.

I'm about to buy a BBQ, my first ever one. Talk about a confusing purchase. So far I am leaning towards the Weber 200 Q... anyone know this model at all?

![]() But seriuosly, the similar one I had worked great under the same situation you have now so I can imagine that the Q would work just as well. Keep us posted as to what you decide ![]() ![]()

Okay, finally downloaded. Sad that this could happen when it's always covered (when not being used) and it's only five or so months old.

Aww man! That sucks. Looks like paint is chipping off due to poor surface preparation...

I'm not a huge fan of webers myself..... Coleman make some great ones, but there are some Aussie brands that make 'em nice and tough. I'm happy if it's got a grill, lid with temperature showing dealy and a wok-thingo on the side!

![]() Jackaroo are quite good, they make some of the middle-range ones with a SS hood and wok burner that are very good value. Beefeater (dunno if they're aussie, but hey) are good too - but see if you can find one a good strong hood, some of the cheaper ones are prone to rusting. Or, try this one: http://www.bbqrus.com.au/newgeneration1.html it's got a good body, should be fairly strong. ![]() Apparently the enamel is best against rust, as some of the cheaper ones have colorbond components that aren't that great. man, now I'm hungry...... ![]() ![]() ![]()
