Paul Newman Daytona came today!

Well, sorta. The Alpha landed

Super finish. Solid. Nice acrylic crystal and a nice bracelet with screw links. Feels nice winding too!

The white balance on my setup still isn't right so I need to do a custom one. Should've cleaned the plastic film protection residue off the bezel insert too

Thanks for the tip Padi. I like it
Cheers,
Bruce

Padi, I just took the plastic off the bezel yesterday Was trying to take more pics and the bezel kept coming out all scratchy looking. Pulled a bit here and there, and WTF more bloody plastic!! See it ain't just you

OK, gotta say I"ve been wearing this watch since it arrived, and I still don't want to wear anything else. Can't believe how well made it is! I've not done a proper timing like Padi did, but it sure seems to be running well.

Just ordered a couple of different oyster bracelets from Alpha to try on it. The bracelet it comes with has the old DJ style clasp which isn't secure enough for me, so I've got a regular sub style one and one with polished center links coming: all for a bit over $40

Still can't believe how nice this watch is for so very little money
Cheers,
Bruce

Well Bruce glad I was not the only idiot to leave the plastic on. Like you have been wearing almost daily with out any problems at all.The bracelet is great myself have had no problem with clasp, but agree would prefer a flip-lock.Yes I have a few bracelets from him and like you for the money quite remarkable well made, but had to tighten a few of the screws on one of them.

Agree Peter, great bracelets! The clasp is very secure for its type, but I accidentally popped it open while going down a big slide with Josh at Trethorne the other day. That's when I thought it was time to get a flip lock if I was going to wear it as much as I've been.

I'm truely amazed. When I look down at my wrist from the side, I see a Rolex. When I look at it from any angle but the dial, I see a Rolex. The case is that good! I think my favourite part though is the acrylic crystal. I just love acrylic crystals! For a chrono, I don't mind the 30m w/r, but it's too bad the GMT, Sub, and Exp II homages aren't at least 100m. Kinda silly for a "Sub" to only be 30m w/r

Yes agree on all counts,in my review I was being quite picky that in reality its only a two register chrono. Now the movement looks like the old Venus 175,but a copy of said. But the crono works remarkably well and resets as good,or better that some costing 20 or 30 times as much. And the beauty of the acrylic crystal if scratched polywatch will sort it out.Now regarding the water resist bit, myself have submersed fully by accident, without a problem. But I would not recommend these watches any more than splash proof to be on the safe side.

Interested in another group buy? I am thinking about getting a jumpdate also.

Also, I shot them an email and they said they can custom watches, meaning they don't have to say alpha on the dial if you don't want to, however in that case it has to be 100pcs and the same style.

That's got me thinking. Do you think they'd do 100 "Tosser" watches?

I am in for the paul newman tosser, that or a TRF one.

We need to come up with a TRF logo or something, getting a 100 pcs order shouldn't be that hard. But it has to be the same model and style.

That could be a good idea... hardest part will be getting everyone to agree on the 1 style of watch! I'd be up for that depending on the style of watch.

edit: I'd be interested in the paul newman chrono if you were to go for a custom model. I just ordered the Moon one at $80AU delievered to Australia... its pretty darn good!!

WOW!! Great idea, Adrian. If TRF had the exclusivity for those watches, can you imagine the premium they'd command on the open market??!! We'd all be millionaires!!
