Date magnification
The kids and I were playing in the pool with our goggles this afternoon and I noticed something that only a WIS would. The date magnification reduces under water!
Perhaps a science WIS can shed some light. Hopefully I do not have a fake cyclops.... or fake water in my pool Just to be sure (WISness no doubt) I compared the underwater magnification of a GMTIIc and SS Sub - relieved to say that the magnification reduced on both the Sub and the GMT! However, I also noticed that the date magnification on the Sub appears ever so slightly stronger than on the GMT. On further closer inspection I also noted that the Sub's rehaut appears thicker/deeper compared to that of the GMT. Perhaps that and maybe a different thickness in crystal is the reason for the difference magnification. Curious to hear from those in the know. |

Magnification on my LV sub is a bit stronger than on my GMT.

Magnification works by refracting light. The refracting index for glass or sapphire is more than it is for water, therefore the magnification caused by the cyclops would be reduced slightly if view through the medium of water.
Magnification will be more on a Sub, thicker crystal, than a GMTII. |

Diff on the sub is due to the rehaut height, increasing the distance between the bubble and the date wheel. I think the Sub has the same crystal (2mm) thickness as other 100m sporties.

Yep, same crystal.. Only the DeepSea and SeaDweller have thicker crystals (and thus no cyclops).
It is the rehaut depth that makes the difference (mentioned above). -Sheldon
