Well no it isn't a Military Sub, and not it's not a Comex Sub, it isn't even a plain old red Sub (I wish

), it doesn't have a ceramic bezel insert, and it doesn't have a parachrome hairspring, but its my Sub and it does have some battle wounds but it is 32 years old and moreover it does have a little character.

I wish I could get one of those tritium bezel dots but alas that would make it near perfect.

I love the dial Stevo...and as you said every Rolex tells a story...Keep it in it's original condition so all the stories stay with it.

Yes I love this vintage, The crystal does stand proud of the bezel by quite a way, but I've noticed some difference in this crystal from a past 1680. The edge of this crystal seems to be beveled and that make is much nicer, at least to me. The plexi is more to my liking than sapphire too.

GORGEOUS!!!

I noticed the same change to the crystal when I got mine back from Bob. I think this is the shape of the current Rolex service replacements.

For a 32 year old well worn Submariner it looks pretty darn good to me! Just goes to show how well built these watches are - I hope it keeps going for another 32 years and beyond :)

Jed & Michael: Thanks guys, I traded a JLC UltraThin to get this Sub, no regrets, the JLC was a beautiful watch but it just wasn't getting any wrist time. After a while you know what you like to wear and I like auto wind and a date feature, sadly the JLC didn't score on either category.

Rick: One of the things that I liked about this watch was the grey bezel insert and the very clean dial. The scratches really didn't bother me on a watch like this.

Dan: Yes 'vintage' is great as I'm sure you will come to know with the 'Tudor Heritage' which harks back to the 1970's very soon

TheDude: Yes Rolex seems to have changed the shape on the crystal of this watch, and I like it now more than ever!

Allan: Yes Allan at 32 the watch is just starting to get a little character and maturity, another 20 years and it will be at it's prime.

Nbtimes: Yes it looks great but oh how a little white rectangle with a stenciled 'comex' would have been very special, but hey I'm more than happy

That's a very nice 1680 and I would keep it over a DSSD. Why change the hands and/or dial for lunimova? They look fine to me.

Great watch!! It surely got some interesting stories behind it.

It well reminds me of my own 1977 vintage 1680, which is at present at the local Rolex facilities for a service.

It has been there for two months now, and the return date was June 30th, but I received a call telling me about some delays in services, and it will be ready this week end.
I´m surely missing it a lot!!

I love my 32 year old 1680 Sub too, even if it did spend three decades doing what it was supposed to do (previous owner was a US Navy diver). I dive with it, let the puppy chew on it, wear it motorcycling and basically use it as intended. A friend of mine wore his on 35 Titanic dives and countless other expeditions. You can't go wrong with this watch!
