Dave, I have always worn my Rolex to work. Now if you are working on a construction site, you might not want to risk damage. But that would be the only reason I would hesitate to wear it to work.

Personally, I would not wear it. If you waited 27 years to get it why trash it in six months on a job site?

Definitely not for construction work. Not even for an outside field service job.

Dave, if you are engaged in tough manual work, with a high likelihood of considerable and sustained damage to such a fine timepiece, then I would not wear it, under those circumstances. As has been said, after 27 years of waiting, it would be a great shame to trash it. Hope this helps

Rolexes are meant for enjoying.
Some like to coddle them, some like to put them through their paces, others like watching them go around in winders Any which way, I'm sure your watch can handle it.

Jocke - what about your DJ with the blue dial, the one that you showed us undergoing extensive restoration?
I thought you wore that one to work as a daily beater?

I think that the Sub is a great choice for an everyday work watch..
Most who say otherwise aren't really considering the watch, they are considering the cost.. However, I have used both Subs, GMT's, and Exp II's as beaters doingeveryday things at work, in my shop, hiking and extreme sports, and in the yard. Today those watches have been cleaned and refinished and could almost pass for new if you didn't know their age.. Like this 10 year old Exp II that got it's first service this past Summer:

Enjoy it as much as possible. If you want to look at new watches all the time just stop by an AD now and then.

May I ask why it was sent for service? Was it for regular service or because the time keeping was off? Thanks ! |

I don't know, Dave.
I take mine off when I go banging around safes or doors. If I remember to, I'll post a picture of a few danger zones located in common areas of my truck.

I know EXACTLY what you're talking about Dave mate & I face the same dilemma every day....
But to be honest I inevitably wear my Seiko Monster for work (Construction Manager whose occasionally "hands on") & I keep my Rolex for "off duty".
