Thought I'd say Hello since I'm new to the forums. I'm newly interested in Rolex's, actually never thought this would be something I'd really want to invest in. I've really fallen in love with the Sea Dweller. I see lots of positive comments about them and am now in the hunt for one of my own. Any advice for somebody looking to make their first Rolex purchase? New vs. Used?

Ppedy welcome to the forum. Sure is that you'll find all the answers you want for Rolex watches. SeaDweller is a great watch and if you want my opinion buy a new one if you can afford it.

Howdy!

My advice would be to buy new if you can afford it and plan to keep it for a long time, but used if you might sell it in a year or two.

My ultimate goal is to have a legacy to give to my son who just turned one a couple of weekends ago. I'll probably have to save up for a year or so, but I'm planning on buying new. I've heard that Rolex does regular rate increases on their watches. Are these at set times, or just whenever? I'd like to buy before prices go up again. Anybody know the retail of a new SD? I've heard it's around $5,100.

I would say that new would be a good bet for you, take care of it and have it serviced periodically and it will stay in new condition forever

As for the rate increases, I'm no expert, but from what I can tell they do increase the prices about once a year, but nobody knows if and when they're going to do it.

Also, while I know financing a watch may not be the best money desicion out there, my AD gave me interest free for a year with no fees. I could have paid cash, but figured I'd take the interest free and leave my money in my savings account making 5%.

I'm going to start my search local and see what I can come up with. And I've thought about financing a part of the purchase as well. Might do it if I could get 12 months with no interest like you did. Sounds like a reasonable deal. I certainly don't plan on adding interest to the price of an SD.

Welcome to TRF there is nothing wrong by buying a used Rolex SD from a reliable source.Basically the SD has changed very very little in the last 20 years.And has the same Cal 3135 as the Submariner,this movement has not changed since its introduction in the late 80s.

Thanks for the info. I'm certainly not opposed to looking at a used SD, if it's in good shape and I'm sure I'm buying from an Authorized dealer.

Thanks - I think part of the fun will be in the hunt. I'll need to save a little more then I can really start looking. I'd hate to find a deal and not have the funds to take advantage of it.
