Diamond District NYC

Does anyone have any experience with the diamond district in NYC? Or maybe can give me some advice on shops to check out and/or shops to avoid?

I am planning on taking a trip to the city this weekend with the future Mrs. in order to get some ideas/pick out her wedding band and possibly have some work done to her engagement ring (it's set pretty low and won't really fit right with a diamond band, so we need to have the stone "raised"). I myself have never been down there, but have heard mixed reviews. I would really appreciate any and all responses to this.

Thanks in advance!

Its a rats nest going in their blind. Try to get a recommendation( which youre doing) from a friend who knows a specific shop/jeweler there. My X and I had someone there that was good and fair priced. I forgot the name and Im damn sure Im not calling her to find out. Congrats and Good luck.

I've bought a lot of stuff there over the years. The main difference between the various stores are personality... Some are very generous with their time and others are pricks. Walk away from anyone you don't like because there are plenty to pick from.

Prices will be similar across the board but definitely price shop. There will be one guy that is slightly more expensive and another that is willing to give a bit more than the rest

I felt dirty coming out of some of those shops, can't explain the feeling really. I know they sell watches but they won't sell one to me.

I like the diamond district, but do enter with your game face on as there are many hustlers there. I've bought several watches from Alex at World of Watches 36W 47th St. and he has always done right by me...

I know the 580 Building has all the diamond wholesalers and 47th has few nice stores and the rest are booths but with the competition you should do good
