Numbers on the ceramic Sub bezel - white gold, platinum, other?
I tried searching and could not find it. I think I've seen a video or documentation about the way Sub-C bezels are constructed. How do they carve out the numbers and markers? What is in there? The bezel itself is ceramic, but it is apparent that the numbers are grooved out of something different. I have read that this is platinum or white gold.
Can anyone confirm or link to the proof? Thanks! |

The numerals are drilled in the ceramic whilst it's still soft, and is then bombared with platinum or gold (for TT and 18Ct yellow models) particles. The bezel is then polished, which gives it that wonderful shine

For the SS SubC the numbers are in platinum that is deposited on the ceramic bezel.

Take a look at the GMT video on the bezel and you can see a "representation" of how the precious metal is added to the numerals. Enjoy!

So those numbers are filled by bombarding the empty cavities with tiny crystals of platinum and gold. Pretty nifty.
One thing that I've wondered is whether those numbers are porous and would they stain if you spilled something like wine on them? |

Nothing will happent to those numbers, the platinum is there to stay a very long time, in all the enviroments.
