When did Rolex stop the micro etched crown?
Just wondering when they stopped micro etching the crown at the 6:00 position? Is this then when they strarted to put ROLEXROLEXROLEX around the inner ring and also the serial no at 6:00?
Thanks! |

Micro etching hasn't stopped. The engraving on the inside is called 'rehaut engraving' and it's a regular practice for almost all models.

Wow, I had no idea it was still there! I just purchased a mint mint 2007 model Datejust Turn-o-Graph, that should be delivered today! I didn't know that etched engraving is on the models with the rehaut also...
Any pics of this engraving?? |

Use a black light. It needs to be a good one. The unpolished area from the etching will show up white. Also, I have seen it at 9 and 3 o'clock.

Do you mean this Laser Etched Coronet (LEC), if so, you should have one too?

In a dimly lighted room, shine a penlight across the flat surface of the crystal from then 12 o'clock position to the 6 o'clock position. Then gently rock the watch a bit and it should reveal.

The easiest way to see it is to use an LED flashlight and a jeweler's loupe.

It's not on the 116400GV due to the green in the crystal.

If you can get the watch in some direct sun light and just tilt it back and forth you can pretty easily get it to pop out at you!

And here is the coronet on a service crystal, notice the little 's' inside the circle.
I believe Rolex did stop doing this since 2007 or so. |

Really difficult to see with the naked eye on watches with white dials in my opinion. You have to tilt the watch until the dial is no longer behind the logo from your viewing angle.

under microscope with tilted illumination
you can clearly see. Or, when you are in the car, tilt your watch sideway against the sun beam.
