Clear caseback on my TT Sub

Here's a shot of my Sub with the clear caseback installed. I had to take my camera in for a repair today, and one of the guys in the shop took this pic for me.

Well afraid the Rolex movement is not the prettiest to look at, with very little decoration compaired to some. Now the red alloy automatic winding gears are coated with PTFE Teflon, for longer life and better lubrication, thats the Rolex calling card. But the workhorse movement dont need to be decorated because normally its hidden with the case back.

Well the El-Primo Rolex modded movement is not highly decorated like many others.

One of Jockes pictures.

I think it's kind of neat!

Pity the Rolex movements aren't prettier. But that's why I suppose they don't have clear case-backs!

Nice one Al.

I guess it makes sense having a glass back if you plan on wearing it inside out with the caseback showing.

I'm dyslexic. Are you supposed to wear them with the dial out?

Since the watch is mechanical it would be great to watch the guts at work. If I had a glass back I would stare and admire the movement. Whether or not it has the prettiest movement, I do not own or have seen any of the other watch movements so Rolex is the prettiest to me by far

I love the clear back. What would happen if you sent the watch to RSC for service with it on? What if was still under the new warranty?

In the USA, you'd have a problem for sure. Not too certain about ADs elsewhere around the world.

I'm pretty sure you'd have a problem sending it in with the clear caseback for service at any RSC worldwide, but it only takes 5 minutes for a watchmaker to put the original caseback on. I made sure I had mine pressure tested after installing the clear caseback.

It's no Patek Phillipe movement, but it's still pretty cool to watch it. And I get a kick out of checking out those red and gold wheels!

Hello Alcan,

I think the clear caseback is stunning. Do you know how much it affects the depth rating, or do you know if these have been pressure tested before with positive results (i.e., not leaking, shattering, or imploding)?

Please PM me the website of where I can acquire one of these, or just email me, Liam AT MotoLiam COT com. I'm always up for modifying anything I own, the word Frankenstein actually appeals to a guy like me.

Big Thanks,
Liam

As Peter said, the Rolex movement is not much to look at compared to some others that are highly decorated. But then a draft horse doesn't look as pretty as a race horse; OTOH, who works better and with more reliability.

BTW, does this reduce the depth rating to 6" +/-?
