Sub-C Service Update
I thought the following might be interesting to anyone who has never seen a Rolex service estimate. As some of you might remember, a couple of weeks ago I started having significant power reserve issues with my less than a year old Sub-C. I sent it to RSC Dallas and received a phone call and written service order today (via email). Note that they estimate the service time will be around two weeks which is pretty dang good. The customer service rep was nice and answered all my questions. She also mentioned that they were able to duplicate my power reserve issues and would be doing a complete movement service on my watch. One thing that did miff me slightly was when I asked about a polish and rebrushing for the VERY minuscule scratches on the case and bracelet that if I wanted that done it would be extra...really?! I mean, I bought what is now an $8,000 watch less than a year ago, it failed under warranty and you won't take 10 minutes or less to touch up a couple of VERY minor marks on the case and bracelet (I mean we're not even talking about something that is readily apparent to the naked eye here)... whatever... as long as it doesn't come back with extra scratches, that's fine with me. For anyone wondering about the replacement value at $7,000... I asked about that too and was told it reflected their cost to replace the watch if anything happened to it (yeah right, I was born at night but not last night [especially knowing ADs make around 40% on the initial sale]...again, whatever ). Anyway, the following is a copy of my service document for anyone who is interested (with my personal info removed for obvious reasons). Have a great weekend all!

I was wondering how much would you expect the replacement value on your SubC? Will it be more or less than $7,000?

I think it is ok if they do not refinish the outside... if you want it I do not think it would be too much cash either... do not worry about replacement value.. when you send it, insure it for the correct amount and ask them to do the same when they ship it back.
I am sure if something happened, they would just hand you a new one...

@globalmedia - Current retail is $8,000 USD. When I bought it, it was $7,250 (one of the first to be sold in the US after Basel release so the retail was never less than $7,250). I just found it funny they would tell me their cost to replace it was $7,000 when they sell them brand new to AD's at retail minus 40%. It doesn't really matter though as moviefreak is correct that they would probably just send a brand new one regardless of what their cost is. I just don't like being BS'd no matter what the subject.
@moviefreak - You're right, it doesn't matter to me if they refinish it or not but I would think out of principle they would do it anyway and not ask for more money (especially with an 8K watch that failed in less than a year), more so for a watch that has virtually no damage whatsoever. If they noted damage, I just think it should be corrected as part of the service, warranty or not (maybe I am out of line in that thought process). It would take 10 minutes or less and they would have a more satisfied customer in the end. That's all. I'm not upset or going to take issue about it. Definitely not worth worrying about. @dannyt - Your's will likely outlast the 2 year warranty. I think mine is an exception so plan on $500+ in 5 years or so. Just a cost of ownership of such a great timepiece. Maybe I sounded like I was upset about a couple of things, I'm really not. Rolex has been great to me so far. Hopefully I am just as happy in a couple of weeks when she comes back. Man I REALLY miss that watch!!! |

I agree it would be nice of them to do so... only if they ask you first...

Rolex generally does not polish the watch when work is done under warranty.
