I need a History Lesson
I just purchased an R serial 16550 Explorer II white dial. The watch is gorgeous no cream dial or rail dial just the normal white dial with some very sweet patina on the lume markers. The hands are new but I like the contrast so I'm OK with it.
I wanted to read up on the 16550 and I what I found was confusing. Most articles stated the 16550 had white gold trim around the lume and white gold hands, my watch has black trim and black hands. I thought is this a 16570 but no the ref number on the case is 16550. At first I was worried but then I read (nothing official) that the R series especially the later watches in the series did ship with the black trim and hands but not many were produced in the R series. Can anyone here confirm that the 16550 did come with a black trim dial.

I believe it is normal to have the white gold stuff painted black on your model Explorer.

I should have done more research before buying but it was an impulse buy and even though I am very happy I will never do that again. Again thank you!

your watch is ok ; here is another 16550 with rial white dial, same indexes and
hands ... btw this combo has been seen not only in 16550 with R case but also in older watches with lower case number. |
