POLL - How many watches to collect ?
I am back down to two fine watches (for me three's a crowd).
How many watches would you say is the right amount to have in your collection? Absent a lottery win, of course.

I bought a SS. Then I "upgraded" to a TT and couldn't part w/ #1. Seven years later I got a different brand/type/model. At what point does one become a "collector"?

I'm down to the following as I've sold a good portion of my collection...
DateJust 16030 SeaDweller 16600 Omega 2531.80 I'm still waiting for the replacement for my Chrono Avenger... the trade has become complicated as the watch that I'm supposed to have is lost in the mail... tracking don't even work. The other party involved sent me an echeck for the replacement value - crossing my fingers.

Currently got a Sub and a GMT....both Z series.
Would like to own...... SS black face Daytona (on the list allegedly...we shall see !) New style SS GMT II (in a few years...at a discount) New style SS Sub ND (if it's any good when it comes out) These are the 5 that will eventually make up my collection.......all SS and all black face watches......just the way I am I suppose. The only two watches that have any chance at all of knocking me out of my OCD symetrical stride are...... Sub LV(this watch just keeps singing to me,over and over) TT blue face YM(the only TT that really gets me going). Now about that lottery win ??????????? |

I have three that I rotate regularly - sea dweller during the week and two Pams at the week end.
Also got an old GMTII that's retired, 2 x omegas, a seiko quartz dive watch, a fossil, 1 x timex from school, 1 x invicta (don't ask why), 1 x Russian divers paper weight that has stopped because it needs gas apparently plus an Atmos clock. Sorry what was the question?? Three or maybe four, I'm looking for a GMT ceramic bezel to join the flock. |

Here is what a nice collection would be:
One of each type of watch, each from a different company. For Example or something similiar would work and make a ncie collection: Dual time watch (Rolex GMT II) Chronograph (omega speedmaster) Dress Watch (GP 1945 ) Dive Watch (Ulysse Nardin Marine Diver) Pocket Watch (Longines) Alarm Watch (JLC Memovox) Pilots Watch (Glashuette Navigator Auto) Anti Magnetic Watch (IWC ingeniur) |

I think it depends on what you feel comfortable with, and the direction you want to pursue in collecting.

I'm not a watch collector, but I can really appreciate Mike's collection and love seeing his pictures from it. Plus, I love reading his knowledge and history of Rolex. But as far as collecting brand new current watches? That never interested me. I did have a TT Datejust because I thought it might be good to have a watch that was a little bit more formal, but it just didn't suit me. I got rid of it and haven't missed it. I guess if I collected watches, I wouldn't mind having a 5513. I really like the beauty that comes in the simplicity of that watch.

I hate to admit it, but I sold my Air King. Got squat for it too. Should have sold it here. Once I made my mind and heart up though I needed it gone right away. It needed to go. Sad. Was a gift from an Ex and I just could not wear it anymore. Too painful and too many memories.
I am down to 4 Rolex. Next up? Maybe a Daytona? I'm just thrilled that my Dad is gonna join the Rolex family next week!! |
