1970 Speedmaster
Hello everyone,
My father bought this watch in 1970. After 15 years of wearing it, he gave it to his brother, who lives in the US. After 18 years, my uncle gave it back to my father. My parents live in Spain, and the watch has been around my fathers wrist from 2003 till last night. Dingdong, doorbell rings. Long story short, my father gave me this very special watch. Needless to say, I'm the happy man! 9 years in the Spanish sun has done something special to this dial. It turned slightly brownish.

Very nice! Congratulations on the family heirloom.
Several years ago, Omega introduced a "sapphire sandwich" with a brown dial. Generally referred to as the "tropic" dial, it simulates your dial's patina. Please post some more photos. Fr. John+ |

I enjoyed your story and especially liked the sunny Spain part which reminded me of Florida where I found this Speedmaster...

Few month's ago I bought a used brown sandwich, but sold it a month after. Didn't like it as much, mostly because of the saphire. To each his own ofcourse, but a Speedy looks so much better with hesalite.

After all the years of duty it still looks amazing.
The only reason my vintage Omega looks good is because it was worn seldom and got put away 35 years ago (just pulled it out in early 2010 and rehab'd it)

Beatiful original Speedy you got there. My fathers 1966 example says hi, the Spanish connection being that, whilst on holiday there some years back, it became waterlogged after a, ahem... water skiing incident..., hence the service dial

Thanks for all the nice comments.
I noticed the clasp popping open each time I bended my wrist, and the bracelet itself has seen better times. So I bought a next to new 1171 with the ''new" 633 endlinks. Safer, better looks and way less rattling. The only thing left on the list is a new crystal, so I have a better view on the stunning dial.
