Intro and Rolex Identification Resources
Hi All
I'm Mat from Cheshire (UK), recently progressed from clocks to interest in watches. I hope you don't mind, but I thought I would jump in with a request for help with a vintage Rolex. I was wonderring if there are any good resources I may have missed that could help me identify the model and any other information available about a family watch I have come into recently. It is a nice simple 9K gold Rolex Precision, but I am not sure which model, the lugs look unusual to my eye as they are stumpy and radiate from the centre of the watch. It has a matt silver face with 6 o'clock sub seconds hands and a period 'Excalibur Model 50' gold fronted bracelet which I assume is a replacement. From the hallmark I think it was assayed in the Birmingham (UK) group during 1954, but the office mark is an odd one - it looks like a spearhead outline containing a lolipop or some such thing and is repeated by a lug on the case in a very small size. The numbers inside the back are '062 4344' (I may have transposed these two groups, but the back is on now); there is also a stamped outline one might call an ogee that contains the number 115. The movement is marked '17 Rubis' and '65639'. The peice has seen a lot of careful use and bears about 6-10 sets of jewellers' marks in the back. Things are busy here at the moment, but I will endeavour to post a picture when I get time. Regards Matt |
