Rolex Model #s

Question for you guys I have been wondering about for a while. Why doesn't Rolex use a Date Just II designation for the new Date Justs or a GMT III designation for the new GMT? To me these seem like totally new watches when compared with their predecessors. It seems like there is more difference between a GMT II and a GMT IIc then a GMT II and a GMT and still no change in name. Not sure if there is any rhyme or reason but what is the reason for adding or not adding a number after the model name? Thanks guys!!

Rolex does not add a II to the name when they just update a model..

In the case of the GMT II, it was called that because there was already a GMT in the line-up, and there continued to be two GMT's available for almost 20 years (the GMT Master and the GMT Master II) until they finally dropped the GMT Master around 2000.

Same with the Explorer II.. There is already an Explorer, and so on.

So, no.... just because the GMT II is updated, it doesn't get a new name.. (It is not called a GMT IIc except on forums)..

Wow, I learn something new every day.

I don't think that quite applies to the Date Just because I see there being 2 very different Date Justs and Presidents in production right now, but neither carries the II designation.
