Deepsea after the honeymoon.
Gentlemen,
Understandably there's a great deal of love for the behemoth that is the Deepsea, and in my quest for a daily wearer, it's presence and robustness is undeniable. Question is however, beyond the initial honeymoon phase, do Deepsea owners enjoy wearing the watch each and every day, long after that initial buzz has settled? Does the watch's heft become normal after a while and does its impressive size impinge upon your business attire? Having tried on a Deepsea in my AD I must say that it has a pretty powerful pull, but will the sense of awe and wonder last or does the Deepsea find itself rotated in your collection? So guys, was it a fling or is the DSSD one for the long haul? Cheers, Stu |

I wore one for 18 month with no problem, it was only after selling and looking back at some photos I think it looked a little unbalanced

I wore my DeepSea 16 hours a day, no problem. I have a 7 inch wrist. The DSSD is one for the long haul. I sold it after 8 months. Now i wear a Casio.

I wore mine daily for 3+ years. After about 2.5 years the extra writing and thickness started bothering me. It's truly one of the greats but IMO not the best choice for an only watch. If you have a few others it's a pretty great addition to a collection. I have a 7.75-8" wrist so size isn't an issue for me at all.

My DSSD is my favorite watch in my collection. Granted, I have only owned it for 3 weeks, but it has been a daily wearer since then and I found that I adjusted to the weight, height and overall size after 2-3 days. I dress casually most of the time, so no worry with dress shirts, etc, but I LOVE it.

I agree with this 100%. I think the people that become disillusioned with the DSSD are those that expect it to be a 24/7 daily wearer. I LOVE my DSSD, and find that it makes a great piece in a small collection, but I would probably choose something a little smaller/lighter, like a Sub C if I could only keep one watch.

daily for near two years but as started wearing my subs more it made me realize how much more well balanced the sub is and now sub goes to daily and DSSD rare. great as part of a collection and what others have said above seems to be common.
of the four watches you just mentioned above all are probably a better "daily" weared than the DSSD, but it is an awesome watch. the GMT would probably cover every situation just by itself...... |

First 2 responders sold theirs and others relagated it to occasional wear, very interesting.

It's not my only watch, just the only one I've worn since I got it last August. I've had no desire to wear anything else. When I first put it on, I was used to it and that has not changed.

I'm at a infamous level almost over my hate/love to this piece. I really want to and try to love it as a daily wearer, but it isn't really the height, top heaviness and weight that kills me at the end - it is the design which is a bit too steroid-pushed for my tastes. Marvelous piece of engineering though and a fun watch to own/wear.

I wear my DSSD the majority of the time (5-6 days per week) but I do think it is important to have other pieces to share wrist time with it; then, when I switch back to the DSSD after a day or so, I get to appreciate its greatness all over again.

I was into panerai before I got into Rolex so a DSSD sized watch has never been a problem. I love mine, but would agree that it doesn't make for a good daily wearer.

I tried it for about week when my brother visited me last year. Not for me. A bit too big and not a fan of the gas escape valve writing.

Every 6 months or so, I convince myself it isn't too big before realizing it is. The fact that I keep coming back to the DSSD twice a year says something about the watch. However it's been now displaced in my mind by the Tudor Pelagos... 42 mm of Ti diving awesomeness is one I would wear as a daily.

Wear my DSSD full-time when deployed. In the US it is part of a rotation with Sub, GMTII, DJII, SMP, IWC, Zenith. The DSSD is so different from all my watches that it still attracts my attention more than the others. Have it on Isofrane for the summer.

Ive always wanted to purchase a DSSD but after reading this thread & actually trying one on at an AD, ive come to the conclusion that its way too big for my wrist & since I have a skinny wrist, there is no way I could wear it all the time.
Looks like I will be going with a Sub C, its not as dressy as the GMT 2C......I use to wear the GMT back in a restaurant kitchen cooking over a stove, haha! Oh well, Rolex watches can take a beating! |

I notice a lot of past tenses around here regarding the DSSD. I think that you should take heed of what former owners say about it.

Also, just because you have a small wrist, don't necessarily rule it out. I have a 6.75" and LOVE the way the watch fits.

As mentioned, the DSSD is great watch to add to any collection but not ideal for daily wear. That's when either an SD or SubC comes into play.

Hey guys. My 2 cents. I have a DSSD, a GMT Master, a Panerai and a variety of other GMT sized watches. The DSSD is my favorite and gets the most wrist time (70%). Perfectly comfortable at the office or at the beach. That said...If I could only have one watch it would be the GMTIIc...imo best all around watch if you're wearing it 100%.

I agree that it is not a daily wearer. That being said, it is the only watch I wear on vacations and on the weekends. It looks great with a short sleeved shirt. In my rotation, the DSSD gets the most wrist time from that alone.

I am still in the honeymoon phase, I think, or at least bordering on the edge of it.
I bought my DSSD on Feb. 28 of this year, so 7 weeks ago today. I LOVE this watch, and I have even said before that I may have bought my grail without even knowing I had a grail. My other watches that I wear are a Tag Aquaracer Chrono (Auto) and I also have a Luminox diver on a Zulu strap. Since purchasing the DSSD, I have only worn the Tag once for a night, and worn the Luminox a few times when working in the yard or just out messing around. I have even worn the Luminox a couple of times just to give the DSSD a break and for the change of pace. All of my watches are 44mm "divers" so size isn't an issue. I would love to say I wear my DSSD everyday all day doing everything, but the fact is I don't. It is the crown jewel of my modest collection, and is by far my favorite, but as much as I hate to agree with the rest of these guys and admit to this, the DSSD is a good 70% wearer, but you may want something else (even if it is cheap like my Luminox) to change pace and give the DSSD a rest. Everytime I have done so it feels so much sweeter putting the DSSD on my wrist, than it does if I just wake up and do it the 6th or 7th day in a row. |

I wore my DSSD everyday for over a year before I finally realized that it was just too big and thick for practical use. After going back to a more sane 40mm 16610 I know beyond a doubt that the DSSD just isn't for me.
