GMT Owners - 24 hand

As a former Naval Aviator I realize the value and utility of a dual time watch. Even with cheapos, I always set the second time zone to GMT.

What are most of us doing? I ask because I saw a UTube video on the GMT where it was set to local time, on a 24 hr clock. I have also noticed a number of pics where it seems to be set the same way.

So if you aren't traveling, where do you keep the 24 hour hand?

I would keep it under the crystal, fixed to the pin together with the three other hands!

You have a sharp wit this morning.

Okay. I guess it was a stupid question. I'm was just thinking that 80% of us that own the watch have no real need for a second time zone reading most of the time

I always have the 24 hr set to "home time" & use the jump hour hand to set local time when I travel

Yeah, I was just kiddin'

Anyway, I asked the same question some time ago since I wondered how many members here actually USE the GMT II hand, if even though I made no poll, I guess that about 98 % told me that they did NOT use the GMT hand, at all.

I for my part would also not use it, if I had a GMT II.

Just for fun when I had the Steinhart Ocean GMT, I had it set for Greenwich time.

Where I work military time is standard so at home both are set to local. If I need to co-ordinate with others in another timezone I use the rotating bezel. When I travel of course I set the 12 hr. hand to whatever timezone I'm in and read home time off the 24 hr. hand.

I live in Ireland so my timezone is GMT. I have the 24hr hand set to reflect this timezone and change it to BST in the summer. When I travel I change the 12hr hand to that timezone. I love the complications on the GMT. Having the date & dual timezones are featues I use on a regular basis. The Chronometer on my Daytona will only ever be played with.

Ditto. And since I do a fair amount of travel across time zones, I always take the GMT when I travel.

GMT hand

GMT hand set to GMT time, with the bezel set to local time (GMT - 7), as well as the hour hand to local time.

Put me in the group that keeps both set to local time when at home. Then the 12 hour hand is changed when traveling through time zones; the 24 hr stays on home time for reference.

There was a time when my work needed me to reference Zulu time frequently. During those years I kept the 24hr (or bezel with the 16700) set to Zulu.

Zulu time of course. The regular hour hand will be on local time (wherever that may be).

Cheers!

I set 24-hour time to GMT, as a) I work with people outside of my timezone, and b) I do some amount of traveling across different timezones. To me, that's more convenient.

I can't help, I live in at + 9.5hrs GMT. HOW DUMB IS THAT.

If I set my GMT to GMT, I can't set local time.

I set the twelve hour hands to GMT on the dial and the 24 hour red hand to local on the bezel. That way traveling to different time zones I just adjust the bezel instead of having to reset the watch.

Ron, what do you currently fly? Been flying UH-60's since 2004. Flew UH-1's, AH-1's,
OH-58's, and AH-64's before that.

I keep it set to GMT, but i live in Barcelona and adjust the bezel accordingly. I usually have the bezel set with "17" at the 12 o'clock position, which keeps me watching San Francisco time, where my friends live. I prefer having the bezel crossed up a little sideways, rather than always seeing it with blue on top, red on the bottom. Yeah, I rock a pepsi :)
